Suppose you and I were sitting together, enjoying a nice cup of tea or a delicious cup of coffee. And suppose I gazed at you and said, “My greatest wish is that you achieve true prosperity.”
Quick! What do you think I meant by “prosperity”? What immediate ideas or mental imagery, do you have?
“In it’s simplest form, financial Prosperity means we are not going without; in fact, we are thriving. But there are many kinds of Prosperity. Without a good combination of Prosperity in all it’s forms… whether we know it or not, we are lacking.”
Before writing this article, I asked five random people that exact question – “What immediate ideas come to mind, when you think of Prosperity?”
The overwhelming response from every one of them was that prosperity had a direct relation to money. Money as in currency. As in dollar bills. Money as in mode of payment, “the green stuff.” As in cold, hard cash.
Only, here’s the thing. Prosperity in it’s true form is so much more than that – so much more than just money. When we step back from our immediate perception of Prosperity and open our minds to thinking just a tad outside the box, it becomes easy to see that Prosperity is really a multitude of things. There are many ways one can experience Prosperity and thus be prosperous, that it behooves us to take a close look at all of them. Come along for the ride with me, will you?
First, let’s get this out there – Prosperity is about money. Some of the time, that is. This is important to discuss before moving on because it has been my experience that a lot of spiritual types actually have a problem with Prosperity in the form of money.
That is to say, I have known (and had long discussions with) individuals who believe money to be the literal root of all evil (it often is) and a hindrance to a spiritual mindset and lifestyle (it often can be).
But here are some new ideas to consider. Our human body is equipped with all manner of experiential devices – eyesight, sense of smell, sense of touch and the ability to taste and feel make life more than rote – with these advantages, life is an experience. Using our senses, life can in fact be more than an experience; it can be an incredible, wonderful, amazing. It stands to reason, then, that human beings are intended to enjoy life.
Doesn’t your favorite meal taste good? Doesn’t a massage feel good? Doesn’t your most preferred essential oil smell good when diffused? And doesn’t a day spent outdoors during your favorite season or an evneing spent making love with someone you are truly passionate about, possibly top it all? So, there it is. We are meant to enjoy life.
And when we are financially stable, we are able to enjoy life more. Without the stress of bills looming over our head or the worry about how we are going to make it from one month to the next, we are freer to experience life in a more enjoyable way.
What about when we are prosperous enough to treat ourselves to a dinner out or a trip to our favorite cafe or shop? Don’t those simple pleasures enhance life even more? And what, dear reader, of the person who has so much financial Prosperity that they have enough to share with others? Financial Prosperity can be a good thing. When seen, treated and done right.
PROSPERITY – In Other Forms
But there are other very real and valid forms of Prosperity. In my opinion, without a good combination of Prosperity in all it’s forms, indivudals are lacking. Here are some more ideas.
COMPASSION Would you say you are a person who is prosperous in the area of compassion? Do you routinely put yourself in the shoes of others, in order to take into consideration what someone else is thinking or feeling? For the purpose of being understanding, compassionate?
One who is prosperous in compassion realizes that selfish, willful behavior does not go very far toward being a good person, much less helping to re-establish a healthy global community. Remember, a healthy, thriving global community begins at the local level – it begins with each one of us. Compassion, in abundance, is vital in that endeavor.
One who is prosperous in the area of compassion is mindful of their words and actions as they impact the evolution of their own spirit and their contribution to the world. Therefore, folks who achieve Prosperity in compassion, often give of their time, energy, understanding and yes, money – freely and abundantly, if they can.
HEALTH and WELLNESS To be an individual who is prosperous in the area of health should be a personal goal for every one of us. But it isn’t easy. We all have the tools required to be healthy and well at our fingertips – information and free will – but knowing what is right and conducive to good health, doesn’t mean it’s easy to act on it.
Yet, to be prosperous in health is perhaps one of the happiest states of being. As the old adage goes, money can buy a multitude of things and a whole lot of fun, but money cannot buy one’s health. No, choosing health is a decision we must make for ourselves.
Choosing whole foods our bodies can use; committing to exercise in any way that is appropriate and realistic for us (remember, plain old walking is literally the best all-over exercise, apart from swimming) and choosing to jettison unhealthy habits that compromise rather than support our wellness – it all depends upon us, the decisions we make, the actions we take – or don’t take.
Someone who achieves Prosperity in the area of health knows that in addition to beneficial foods and exercise, healthy thoughts and emotions are important too, since our thoughts and feelings have a direct impact on our physical health.
SPIRITUALITY Do you know anyone who is prosperous in the conventional sense – plenty of money, a nice home to live in, maybe a nice spouse, children, friends – but lacking in the spirituality department? These people seem to “have it all” but there always seems to be something missing, doesn’t there?
These folks often feast on a steady diet lacking any real substance. Discussions with such folks can be “about nothing” except their personal lives, the goings on of pop or celebrity culture and current news or trends. It is clear: these individuals may have it all in the secular, conventional sense, but they are lacking – to their own detriment – in spirituality.
And I do say to their own detriment because in this life, it is only a matter of time before every person on the planet comes to the realization that life as they know it in a societal sense, is starkly different from reality… Our reality is that we are one of many species living on a miraculous planet. Our planet is one of many in a solar system, and that solar system is one of many galaxies. The planet itself is large; the solar system is yet a mystery; and the Universe itself holds untold power and adventure – all waiting to be discovered, first by going within to find a spirituality that speaks to us.
The things that people often lust after or admire most in this life are fleeting, and after it’s all gone, all that remains is the Universe and knowing our place in it. This awareness often ignites a spiritual quest or lifestyle.
I’ve seen the ah-ha! moment again and again at spiritual circles and events. Once an individual really connects some sense of spirituality, it becomes quite impossible to imagine much less live, a life without spiritual connection.
I would be quick to remind readers that spirituality often has little to do with religion. While one’s chosen spiritual path can also be their religion, it is quite realistic that rote weekly worship can be as separate from spirituality as Twinkies and Ho-Hos are to health food.
For many of us, communing with nature at a park, on the beach or beneath the stars in one’s own back yard, is a spiritual experience and can be the basis of our spirituality. There is meaning, mystery and magic in the everyday. Realizing this simple yet profound truth and integrating it into one’s life as spirituality, makes all the difference between a person who is connected, and one who is not; a person who is lacking something and one who is fulfilled. The latter is an indivual who is Prosperous in spirituality.
PATIENCE Perhaps being prosperous in the patience department is one of the most trying things, of all. Being truly patient requires attention and persistence, committment to an inner calm and higher knowing. Being patient means we allow children to make mistakes, do not jump to conclusions, have the wherewithall to wait and see how something is going to turn out. When we have Prosperity in the area of patience, we do not put undue pressure on ourselves or others to do or perform at a nonsensical rate.
Patience means making peace with the cycles of the Universe and our own earth, allowing those cycles to play out in our lives according to their own timetables. One who is prosperous in patience knows that what we want and when we want it, is often not in harmony with natural cycles or the Universal flow. Patience makes it possible to ride out a prolonged period of waiting, trusting that there is a greater plan or that the Universe is responding to our needs in its own time.
Having prosperous patience means we forgive ourselves for making mistakes, and that we allow ourselves to sleep in, take a break, lose the weight on a reasonable schedule or realize that manifestation does not and should not, happen overnight.
Having Prosperity in area of patience means that we are willing to open ourselves to the reality that before the sun can shine and manifestation occur (a la The Secret), first there must be a season of darkness and cultivation – and no one of us escapes that brilliant order of things.
Being prosperous in the area of patience allows us to realize that the people in our lives may need time to work things out, realize, grow or become – just as we do.
I’m willing to bet at this point, I’ve offered some significantly different perspectives on Prosperity. At least, I hope I have. As always, please leave me your comments, feedback, and your own ideas or anything you’d like to add. Life is about sharing what we know, what we believe, how we feel and what we’re thinking. In this way, we can experience Prosperity in our connections with each other.
Moonbeam Blessings for Wellness, Joy and Prosperity to all!
