The Secret: Synthesize Happiness

(click on title for larger screen)

In many ways I didn’t need all the research results presented by  Dan Gilbert  in this video.

I just needed to pay attention to what happens in the lives of the children closest to me.

The children who are convinced that they will be happy as soon as they get an ipod,  a phone, or their own room.  Who believe that happiness resides in being invited to the big party or getting the opportunity to attend swim camp.

And then set the timer once that “thing” is presented to see how long the happiness lasted.

And even knowing all that I failed the pop quiz Dan presents us with in the first few minutes of the audio.

Please leave a comment after watching the video and let us know what surprised you most.

What an amazing journey this is :)

Fascinating talk. Question: at the 18:15 mark Gilbert says, “the irreversible condition is not conducive to the synthesis of happiness”. Doesn’t he mean the reversible condition? I thought he’d just related how the group who had a choice were unhappy and the group who were locked in, “created” happiness. I find mistakes like this all the time in printed material, where someone states the exact opposite of the concept they are tryng to explain. But I’m never quite sure if my perception is correct, or if it’s some kind of “perceptual dyslexia”. Did anyone else notice this?

If you enjoyed this video, also read “The Path to Authentic and Lasting Happiness” (an earlier link in the Evolution E-zine email). Its concepts are intimately related to this video’s.

Just watched this video today and agree with Phil about “perceptual dyslexia”. Or am I experiencing it myself?

    I believe Phil is right.
I do believe he mis-spoke and meant to say
“the reversible condition is not conducive to the synthesis of happiness”.

I wonder if he did that on purpose?
