Robin de Lavis – The Trees of Hornby Island
.
‘The Trees of Hornby Island’ series came about after a harsh winter, when many familiar trees were blown down and uprooted. While walking along the bluffs one day I found a tree I had painted the year before, but now it was cut up for firewood. It was then and there that I decided to immortalize some of these symbolic trees in my paintings.
Normally my paintings are quite abstract, but in this case I decide to encase the flowing colours inside the shape of each distinct tree. They are painted on old-growth Fir wood panels with a background of gold.

Robin,
These are absolutely gorgeous and so very reminiscent of Hornby Island (especially “The Sound of the Sun Going Down” and “The Path” (except with a twist). They look somewhat tropical with the vibrant moving and wonderful colours.
I look forward to seeing lots more of this direction.
Thank you Nancy. I know you are familiar with this area so I’m glad you were able to revisit Hornby Island in this way.
These paintings are very beautiful. I really like the play of the colors and the way you use them to give the trees texture. My favorite one would be The Path. Beautiful work!
great paintings, really amazing!
Simply superb creations. I quite enjoyed viewing them.
These paintings are just awesome. it seems a lot of thought has been given before using the brush. Right colors, background. just Wow!!.
I really liked the “Duet” one. The caption really suits the picture, the way there are just two branches.
Great Work.
you have a great sense of poetry. It’s not looking like poetry but has a good feeling which tells you that it has been written in poetic sense. The art work also provides the required essence which gives the post the unique look.
The color just blows me away! They are very inspiring. Thanks for making my day more interesting.

I really like the artwork posted on this page, especially the artwork titled “Reflecting” and “Autumn Tree”. The creative approach is unique and I have not seen trees presented in such a way before. The colors are very nature in their tone and the colors seem carefully chosen to fit with the theme of the particular artwork. I hope to see more artwork in this unique style!
These are all gorgeous! I love how all the colors of the rainbow come out in each piece. When viewing them they make give a sense of spiritualism and calming.
My favourites are “Listen. Answer.”, “Northern Lights”, “The Sound Of The Sun Going Down,” and “The Path”. I love how you blend the vibrant colours with the darker shades, almost as if showing the transition that these trees underwent during that harsh winter. Beautiful and thought-provoking work! Thank you!
Thank you everyone for your positive comments and feedback. It is much appreciated:)

WOW! Wonderful paintings. They really speak. I feel that trees are very wise and spiritual and that feeling is so well captured in these paintings. I LOVE them, especially “Reflecting” and “The Sound of The Sun Going Down”. Thank you so much for sharing!
Congratulations! is a poor way to express my admiration for your talent. I love your work! Thanks for sharing it.
I visited 7 tree paintings up here. But the most which I liked is “Listen Answer”
The most touching matter I felt about it is, the way of using colors, I mean if someone wants to tell you something (which I can feel in the darkened portion, actually this portion is postured darkened then the trunk of the tree, which is the true high light for the title of the picture.
Then I would say the “PATH” is also fabulous painting. The path is getting originated from the tree itself which make the 100% relevancy to the title and message of the picture.
The rest 5 are also good but truly speaking I like these two more, hence commented on them only. else it’s really a remarkable job. Congratulations!!!
These paintings are beautiful. I wish I had the talent and time to create art this awesome. Keep up the great work and congratualtions on the success!
I like the first, fourth and the fifth one alot! They are pretty abstract and the detail is just amazing for glass painting. I would love to get one of those for my house.
I must say that I’m impressed. Your artwork is outsanding. My personally favourite is “The Sound of the Sun Going Down”. Watching it relaxes me. Thank you for these paintings!
These paintings are excellent. You have managed to combine many different styles and techniques to create your own vibe.
These are great. I especially am fond of “Duet” and “Listen.Answer.”
These pieces of artwork are outstanding. I love the fine array of colors used in all of these pieces. My favorite is definetly “Listen.Answer” It relaxes me and is quite unique. Reminds me of a warm autumn day.

The colors are Magnificent and the forms speak to me!
Beautiful evocative shimmering energy presence in these works!
I’ve never seen anything like it. This is absolutely the edge of painting designs, the highest point of imagination. You can easily find yourself in these drawings. This is by far the best work I’ve seen. I’m really impressed. It may soind strange but by looking at these drawings I feel calm, relaxed, relieved. If there was any tension, it’s 100% gone now! Thank you very much, Robin de Lavis!
Robin, I spent some time exploring your galleries and was deeply moved by the concept of turning bombs into flowers through your art (the “Peace Mandalas” link.) “Seedsong.MotherEarth” is one of my favorites. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing your gifts!
Thank you for you kind responses. It is deeply appreciated.

Thank you Emmeline. And yes Michele Andree, it’s good to be here:)
Hi Robin – and thank you for sharing your paintings.
To be honest, paintings don’t generally seem to connect with me to the same extent that other artistic forms do (hopefully, I’ll ‘get’ it one day!).
BUT, your ‘reflections’ painting immediately stood out to me straight away and had me meditating on it and enjoying it. So, thank you for that!
You are very welcome Mark. Thank you for the feedback, it’s appreciated.
Hi Robin, thanks for sharing your unique talent. Like me you work in rainbow colors and elate your own and everyone elses chakras to DANCE for joy!! I LOVE your work very much. I’m also inspired by nature, animals, and stained glass windows as expressed in my Mandalas, Goddesses, Angels, Mermaids, Cats and Words to Inspire. Please enjoy my art inspiration too. Many blessings.
Carole.
