Motivation got me started… Desire keeps me going!!!

Words of wisdom displayed on the back of the shirt of the person doing cardio in front of me yesterday.  Now that packs a punch.  We all need motivation.  We all need a helping hand to keep us going.  So I will say thank you to whoever designed that shirt, and thank you to the person who wore it, for they truly kept me going.

When it comes to exercise, what gets you going?  What keeps you motivated?  Or are you still sitting on the couch claiming “I’ll start tomorrow”, or “It’s just too early to get up and exercise right now.”  In my world, those are simply excuses, and excuses hold you back.  However, dot, comma!!!!  If you are someone with a huge desire to GET MOVING and simply need a nudge in the right direction, this little ditty is for you.  Exercise keeps your heart healthy, your mind healthy, your lungs healthy.  In addition to putting a smile on your face and building friendships, exercise is anti-aging and keeps your bones strong.  With desire burning within you to make some changes, read on.

Step 1:  Claim It! Tell yourself that you are ready to take responsibility.

Step 2:  Share It! Call or write to someone and share with them that you are ready to take responsibility. Allow them to share in your joy.  Allow them to validate the stand you are taking for you. (this is huge)

Step 3:  Join Forces! Ask someone to join you.  As an example, I personally needed some motivation to get out of bed super early in the morning for my first round of cardio.  I have a friend that had shown interest in walking in the mornings.  She likes to get up at 4:15 am (way too early for my blood).  We made a compromise.  We agreed we would meet at our local gym and already be engaged in some form of cardiovascular exercise by 6:00 am.  My early-bird partner and I greet each other to acknowledge we are keeping our agreement to ourselves and each other, however since we have different goals, we do different activities/intensity levels.  It has been almost a year since we joined forces creating a Win for us both.

Step 4:  Book It! This is your time.  Book it/schedule it in your planner.  Make an agreement with yourself/each other that this appointment is a priority!.  Keep your word to you!

Step 5:  Celebrate SUCCESS! This can look like a pat on the back, a shared smile, or screaming YES out into the Universe.  The point is to Celebrate that fact that you have begun.  Celebrate the fact that you are in motion.  Celebrate all the mini-goals along the way to the larger goal.

Step 6:         Repeat!!

Remember Motivation can get you started… Desire will keep you going!!!
