Nancy Solman – Biography
.
Nancy has been painting for most of her life, but only recently has she placed her work in front of the public eye. She lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
“I have drawn and painted all my life, it seems, and I don’t see any likelihood of stopping. I have not, to date, made any serious effort to display or sell my creations, but hope to change that.”
In addition to painting in acrylics, Nancy also works with watercolour, pencil, pen and collage. Her professional training is in fact Interior design, but over the past 25 years much of Nancy’s creative resources have gone into set design and scenic art.
“The Urban Fairy paintings are a sampling of my acrylic paintings. Most of the pieces are fairly small 10″ x 12″ up to a max of 40″ x 30″. The Faerie series is based on a request from my son-in-law to paint an Urban fairy painting and it simply snowballed from there.”
“I went on to paint more and more and found myself looking at and taking pictures of anything that would lend itself to having a fairie settled in on it. I have many more ideas for the series, but at the moment I am side tracking into a more metaphysical series and I am working on a personal challenge of not using any black or white pigments while painting (for the next 45 days) as well as working with only one brush size per painting. I want to work on loosening up from the insane details that the fairie paintings required of me. I will need to return to much of that level of detail when painting the fairies because of the nature of the wee creatures.”
