Professor Randy Pausch made a surprise return to Carnegie Mellon University to deliver an inspirational speech to the Class of 2008 at the Commencement ceremony on May 18, 2008.

Pausch was included in TIME Magazine’s 2008 list of the world’s 100 most influential
people …and sadly died from cancer shortly after making this speech.

Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch (Oct. 23, 1960 – July 25, 2008) gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007, before a packed McConomy Auditorium. In his moving presentation, “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” Pausch talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals.

    Study the speeches closely. What I hear sounds like the words of an ego maniac sprinkled with positive affirmations. So much of it is me, me, me. “Look what I did.” “Look where I excelled.” I would argue that if you have to stand on the shoulders of your accomplishments to prove your life was well-lived, the opposite is true, and the claims are merely a cover-up for your emptiness.

    I did get an egotistical vibe at the begining. The way he sits them down by raising his hands, then dropping them slowly. They had to have felt like flock. Great message nonetheless.

    Find your passion.
    It is not going to be in money or things.
    It is going to be in what fuels you on the inside.
    It will be grounded in people- and in love.
    He is very Christ-like.

    Loved it! I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch the whole thing at first, but I was captivated from the first second it came on! Goes right in line with the things I have been working on the past year!!!
