Activate the Happiness Virus In Your World

Just this afternoon I was struck by a comment a beloved friend made…

Our Problems are small relative to the horror that is happening in the World – It Makes Me So Angry To Learn…”

I then listened for a few minutes as he began to list the horrors going on around him -and I realized how quickly I could add to the list.  Seems everywhere you look in the world today something horrible is taking place – from Devastating EarthQuakes to Erupting Volcanoes, to Whole Countries Facing Economic Collapse, the list goes on and on and on…

And I realized as I listened to him how much these stories have infiltrated our lives.  Turn on the TV to get a weather forecast and listen to the horrors of the Oil Spill off the coast of Louisiana,  turn on the computer to check your emails and find the latest on the coal mine collapse, check the kids backpack and find the list detailing the dangers of Swine Flu, overhear people talking in the SuperMarket wondering what next product will be pulled from the shelf because of Ecoli…

Let’s face it – anyone who expects the world to be a fearful place has lots of evidence to prove their point.

So – I have to ask – how does all this make you feel?  As you consider the list of reasons why the world is falling apart do you feel empowered, large, ready to make a different in the world?  Does your light shine and your smile radiate?  Are you inclined to fill you day with life enhancing activities and Random Acts of Kindness?

Or does it make you feel fearful and small  or angry and indignant.  Do you find yourself talking about the stories and looking to place blame and building it up in your head until you can’t help but conclude that the world is filled with big problems – much bigger than your little ones – and you should be grateful for what you got because so many have so much less..

I know how it makes me feel when i let myself go there…

And when I said as much to my friend – when I suggested that perhaps it would be better if we kept our focus on what feels good – on what we want to expand – he struggled with the idea because for him it felt like a denial of what is and his truth demands that he remains present with the what is being shown to him in the world.

And I could see his point.  I mean – whether we like it or not these stories are all around us – and unless we close ourselves completely from the world the stories will find us one way or another – and to deny that they exist will not keep them from infiltrating our subconscious and affecting our experience of the world.

As we talked an idea came to me – a way where we can all be present with the stories we are hearing in such a way that we – collectively -transform them.

To help make this idea clearer I want to first refer you to two posts that have been previously published in the ezine…

Quite some time ago I published an article “Worry and Love Cannot Occupy the Same Space“, did you read it?  I would love to know what you think about it.

In another article in the Ezine we introduced the concept of Mind Viruses – a really interesting read and an important concept – so if you aren’t familiar with it why don’t you take a quick read and then come back – I can wait for you :-)

What if we look at all this talk about Natural Disasters and Terrorist Attacks and Economic Ruin as  Mind Viruses that are affecting us and – by our fear based response – are being spread.

And then what if we create  New Mind Viruses – Let’s Call Them “Happiness Viruses” – that we infect each other with – that are Stronger than the Fear Viruses – and that we Feed and Care For and Help Grow  and Spread- and then we – by our intention – move them into those same spaces that had been occupied by the Fear Viruses

Just Imagine – Within the Context of  “What You Focus on Expands” – What the World Will Be Like If We Really Make This Viral?

Looks Good – Right?

So Let’s Get Started…

Step I: Pick the World Fear Virus You Wish to Transform – whichever one is uppermost in your mind – name it and put it aside for the moment (in other words don’t focus and feed it – just say hi)

Step II: Get Happy :-) and share

Remember a story – an event in your life – a video you have seen – a meal you shared – that makes you feel happy. Take the time to share it in the comment section below (it will become part of the viral portion of this plan).  If its a video – watch it – if its a short story – read it – a memory – write it out for us and then take the time to really relive it – remembering the sounds, pictures and feelings until your whole being is filled with happiness.

Something that makes me happy – every time – Laughter

Step III: While remaining in the state of happiness direct your thought toward the Fear Story.  Picture the happiness flowing over and through the devastation and heartache.  See the light increase and the people involved smile.  Use the power of your imagination to change the story into one of love and happiness.  And stay with it for as long as the happiness within you remains strong (once you practice this for awhile you will find that the happiness within you begins to grow as you flow it over the story of fear – at which time stay with it for as long as you want)

Step IV: Repeat Often – daily if you can – and switch up the happiness stories you use.  Bookmark this post and come back and read other peoples happiness stories and use those – and add more of your own.  And also let us know in what ways the Happiness Virus is transforming your own life experience.

Step V: Spread the Virus!!! – Let’s not contain this within the confines of our small community.  Share the link  http://evolutionezine.com/happiness-virus with your friends, on twitter, on facebook – where ever and however you can.  We may not have the power of  Network TV,  Newspaper, Yahoo or Google – but we do have each other – and if everyone who reads this post shares their experience – and then gets just 3 friends to participate – who then get 3 friends – who then get….

Well – then – before we know it we will have infected the World !!!

One more thing and then I will leave you too it.  Because it’s one way I stay happy I will be choosing a comment a day – for as long as comments keep coming in – and will gift the writer with something from our store.

So – what are you waiting for – let’s get happy :-)

Today, one of my students was singing the song “if you’re happy and you know it clap your hands” in Japanese. This song always resonates with a very high vibration for me. The first time I heard it was at a concert I attended as a child. The entire stadium was filled with families clapping their hands, stomping their feet and doing whatever it was that the singer asked of us. It was so much fun, my mom and I sang the song for days on end. Naturally, I asked my student to teach me the words and we sang and clapped down all the way to the bus stop :) Let happiness be spread through singing, dancing, learning and laughing together every day!

I LOVE this and you made me happy just sending it. I couldn’t agree more about the
media and the fear the spread, but in reality for most of us, our lives are
reasonably peaceful and good. Pehaps looking at our own reality for evidence (for
most of us) works well as a transformer too?

Your friend was right, in that maintaining a positive attitude should not be about
sticking our heads in the sand, but looking for the growth and learning and
    transformation available from every situation.

    Here’s my story of happiness:

I’ve just come back from a week-end at Jazzfest in New Orleans which I shared with
my partner and two dear friends. We spent the week-end listening to music,
dancing, eating great food and laughing ourselves silly. Thinking about this makes
me feel good and I hope in sharing this story, I trigger happy thoughts for someone
    else.

    With love and huge smiles

I have a favourite old movie that makes me laugh out loud. Besides being “just plain funny”, it pokes gentle fun at human sillinesses, puts me in a mood where I tend to laugh at things that might otherwise embarass me, approach situations that might involve conflict with a light heart. It’s called “The Gods Must Be Crazy”. I highly recommend it for some happy escapism.

I am having a barbeque this weekend for Mother’s Day. At First I was rushing around
and getting upset at how much I had to do and how much food I had to buy at the
grocery store. It suddenly occurred to me how fortunate I am. My sister is coming
to visit today from Florida to celebrate Mother’s Day with our 92 year old mother
who lives near me. How lucky I am that I still have my mother alive and have a
sister who is my best friend. I also have a wonderful husband and two great kids.
I also said a thank you that I could afford to buy the groceries that I needed to
feed 16 people. After realizes how fortunate I am I realized that getting upset
was ridiculous. I should be rejoicing instead. And that, is a very happy thought!

This article rings true. Every morning looking at the sky outside my window makes me happy — the endless configuration of clouds radiating the early light, the greening of the trees in spring, birds darting across the open space. It’s a scene of well being, even in the occasional rain.

Another happy thing is this video, which most people have already seen (28.4 million views on youtube), called “Where the Hell is Matt?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY. It may sound crass, but it’s just this guy with a goofy little dance step dancing all over the world, with groups of folks, and a happy soundtrack. 28.4 million views, because people really do want to feel good! Yes, we also dose ourselves with bad news probably because we are wired to be aware of danger, but our souls want to dance!!!

I like your idea of the happiness mind virus. It gives a nice focus to what many of us are already doing: imagining the oil spill capped (perhaps that will be accomplished in “real time”
today), people everywhere walking down their streets and greeting one another with warmth and happiness (oh yeah-that’s already happening all over the place!!!), many mindful beings enjoying the fruits of the earth and giving back gracefully. Thanks for the nice hit of rebalancing back to what is!

My uncle, my father’s elder brother, knew he was dying, and he was ready to go. He repeatedly said he didn’t want his funeral to be a dreary, sad, teary-eyed affair. He gave his instructions to my mother, and when the time came, she followed them.

At the cemetery, family members were given bouquets of daisies. As we gathered around Uncle’s simple casket, instead of a minister droning a funereal prayer, my father stood up and told a story about my uncle from their shared boyhood. Then my very proper mother stood up, told a dirty joke, and threw a daisy from her bouquet
at his casket! She turned to look at us, and said “THIS is what Uncle wanted.

    “Who’s next?”

After a brief stunned silence (OUR mother telling raunchy jokes at a funeral?!), my brother chucked, stood up, and said “This one’s for you, Uncle,” and told a joke that had my mother blushing in her seat before he threw a daisy at the casket.

Someone laughed, and soon jokes and daisies were flying as we remembered the jokes Uncle had told over the years, and contributed new ones. By the time we ran out of daisies, stories and jokes, we felt lighter of heart, and happy that we were able to honor Uncle’s wishes by celebrating his life instead of mourning his death.

And I think we all held in the corner of our minds the image of Uncle, perched on the end of his simple casket, laughing and dodging flying daisies.

Well done Cyndi. My good news wish was to change the worlds power supply and it worked. I found something from lightning that is as powerful as a nuclear power plant in one fifteen foot sphere that lightning reproduces all the time. Its made of liquid oxygen and plasma that has the same benefits as a ride on the Space Ship Enterprize. In cold plasma fusion, there are properties of force fields and contained fusion. The sphere is also the reason for what NASA calls a Sprite and that is the reason we are breathing oxygen in our atmosphere. I named it Reactive Plasmatic Mantle. Mantle’s are a wonderful thing to see. They are as quite as a candle and shine a wonderful white light. It also produces the strongest radio waves and probably some waves we don’t know yet. It might have some thing to do with how our brain’s can communicate with the world. Whats more interesting about them is the Egyptians and Mayan knew about them. When I was doing my research about them, my grandchildren were drawing pictures of them for me and I found the same drawings on a movie on the web that is involved with plasma and electricity. There the drawings were , right in a movie I was watching. My LOA clues were coming one after another for that now. As I looked, I found them in ancient art from many civilizations. I think I’m here for that reason and I’m having fun doing it as my passion.

I threw my love and passion into it and things just started to happen. Your wish is my command. So dreams do come true and thanks Cyndi for another wonderful trip on the Evolution Ezine Express.

I also love to watch funny movies they make me smile, also read uplifting books and emails. I do try to smile a lot. Atfter my father’s funeral one of my brothers or sistes saved several tables(put to gether) and we all, all 12 of us (sisters and brothers) told stories about our father. He was a jokester. We had lots of laughts.
I am now going to send my sisters happy mother’s day (we all have kids). It helps to think all of the things we have more than other places, maybe not a lot but better, and I love our great weather.

Yesterday, on my way home from the gym, I was passing through a school zone on a fairly busy road. All the traffic suddenly stopped, both directions, right as I approached a sign welcoming K-7 kids to register for school. About 5 cars ahead of me were 6 goslings being escorted across the road by what looked like mama and papa goose. They were taking their time, a couple even looked like they were going to take a little nap part way across. I looked around, could see everyone grinning and giggling at the sight. Nobody appeared impatient…it was just a wonderful little time-out. I was smiling all the way home.

WOW. I loved this message, it is a great way to turn away from the doom and gloom of the situations and turn in to a way to help out and make a difference to other people affected by those situations.

What can we do to share happiness, is it getting involved or volunteering in disaster relief?, Is it helping with the oil spill cleanup?

Maybe its the small selfless act of begining a small movement to collect funds to assist in the disaster. Picture the smiles and greatfulness of those in the disaster ridden area when they recieve the gift of help that you knew you were part of in some way!

Does the joy you helped give them also bring joy into your own life?

I loved that Cyndi’s message was not just “dont think about it and only think of our own happiness” and shy away from something because it was not happy, but a message of getting our thinking right and positive in a way that would help us help others by looking at a bad situation and seeing what was needed to make positive things come
    from it.

  19. Renee Trenda says:

I have developed a simple technique for reducing negative images in my mind. When I practice this, I can quickly clear my mind of the impact of negativity within me, and it seems to also help the world as a prayer treatment. It is based on the fact that images of any kind are based on “Pixels” which are tiny bits of info/pictures that make up the whole picture overall. The pixels coalesce to form the whole image. Our minds are loaded with pictures. When I want to get rid of a particularly troubling idea, I put it on my imaginary pedestal, so it is isolated all by itself from my other ideas, and then I just look at it and intend that the “Pixels Collapse.” When the pixels collapse, the image falls apart and its influence is gone.
This works on any fear, any resentment, any inappropriate resistence, or any bad habit. The picture needs to be dismantled before the emotions can let go of it.

  20. As a dad dedicated to giving my children tools to access happiness, and an author of an emotional fitness program for kids called An Exercise in Happiness, I am so excited about spreading happy thoughts and reading those from others. MY DAY HAS BEEN BRIGHTENED!! Here is my happy moment:
I picked my kids up from school early yesterday and as I was waiting for them in the office, I heard giggles coming from the hallway outside the door. Two young girls, maybe 2nd or 3rd graders were walking down the hall making one anther laugh. The giggles turned into full blown laughter, and as I looked at the ladies in the office, I saw each one had a big smile. For the rest of the day I visualized and relived this very happy moment, and as I am right now, and I am SMILING.

I do happiness exercises each morning with my kids (gratitude journal, choose an “I am” for the day etc.) and there is no question that thinking happy causes happiness to expand throughout the day.

    Thanks for making Happiness Viral:)

  21. Richard Dunfee says:

There is no question in my mind that the negativity present today has its affect on everyone. No one person will be exempt unless there is total ignorance involved. And even with ignorance there still will be the necessity to react to the affects a negative event promotes.
In essence adversity defines the value of life of each individual.

It is only with knowledge and experience that we can personally opt to make our individual lives and the entirety better or not.

Selecting positive actions rather than dwelling entirely on the negative events will certainly not solve the totality of the problems we each face. But it will counteract the amount of devastation from the negative event and its affect on humanity as a whole will be lessened as the positive event will be shared and spread in an exponential manner.

As such the balance of the negative/positive scale will be maintained or improved toward the positive side of the scale.

It is only through exposure and the emotional experience to the negative events that we are allowed the opportunity of enlightenment. Attempts to counter the affects of the negative events prove we have learned our life’s lesson and grown spiritually.

Without comparison there is nothing to learn. Without action there is nothing to improve.

  22. Thanks for a beautiful article,Cyndi.Love the idea that what you focus on expands. It is very true. I totally agree.

But then;don’t you agree that life’s battles must be faced, albeit happily and smilingly.Greece was a happy place till a few days back. Now, it is in economic turmoil. Many countries are facing war, or, waging war. Viruses are facts.Diseases are facts. But of course, there is no point in expanding them into phantoms beyond their real size. we must face them confidently and secure our wins.
If a country’s borders are guarded efficiently by the military men, civilians can sleep well. So, not all, but some one must be fighting the battles on each front, so that others can contribute to peace and prosperity.
Let us not create phantoms.Let us live joyfully. But,efficiently facing our life’s battles.

Sometimes I will resist, get more and more annoyed. They don’t give up though…not until I give in, stop and let them show me how happy they are…how much they adore me…how appreciative they are of a little attention…how important it is to stop and play for a minute. They are a huge source of balance and happiness in my life…every single day.

I love Maureen’s comment. How do we save the world? One soul at a time. And what better way than to incorporate this into our daily work life. How wonderful it is that she is teaching the young minds of today to look at the positive aspects of their lives and be lovingly grateful. Well done Maureen, you are an inspiration to us all.

Hi Barbara – thanks so much for helping us spread the Happiness Virus – “One Soul at a Time” – well done to you. Check your email for a little gift of appreciation….

We live on the waterfront, along a major river. When life gets too busy or overwhelming in some way, I’ll wander down to the riverbank and stroll along the shore for a while. Even if it’s raining, it’s a source of happiness and peace for me to quietly reflect in the setting of the river, mountains stretching off beyond the far shore. Days like today, when the sky is deep blue, the sun is warm and reflecting off the water…it’s positively wonderful.

Hi Debbie – what a great visual – thanks so much for sharing – I too find tremendous peace and expansion when I spend time with the water – check your email for a gift from us – when you have a moment – it comes with my intention that you discover joy in each moment

My grandson is a huge source of joy and laughter. He loves to make up different words for all the songs he sings. Usually these words have something to do with poop. He does this so that he can get the shocked look on my face. Then he laughs like only a child can laugh. Quite alot of fun. But this paticular day as he was singing we heard him say “Oh Wow!” We turned to see he had found a pen and made a mark on his hand. He was truly amazed and excited about what he discovered. Whenever I remember that day I always find just the simple things in my life and remember his amazement. It’ll make my day the best everytime.

It was over 10 years ago when I was playing with my 2 girls in a back room – when we realized that the sun was shining through the window in just the right way to create a rainbow on Emma’s head. Can still feel the joy as we played with the rainbow – getting it to sit on Sarah’s hand, Emma’s leg, our faces – our children’s amazement and laughter can bring us right back to that realization of the miracle of this world we live in – thanks so much for your story – I have sent you a little thank you thru email….

  32. Debbie says:

Remember that Happiness is a State, Not a Circumstance
Happiness is a state of being, not merely a moment of pleasure or joy. By committing to your happiness you acknowledge and accept that there will be times of challenge and suffering, but by staying true to who you are you will not just endure but thrive. Happiness is not just the bird floating serenely on the water, and happiness is not made unhappy by the rock that falls and temporarily disturbs the water. Happiness is the water itself, always being exactly what it is.

I just came back from a weekend retreat in a beautiful place called “Maranatha”, built in the middle of nowhere some years ago by a Carmel priest. Its a place of silence and peace, surrounded by all kind of flowers, trees and fountains, a waterfall in the distance.
There were 35 of us, we meditated and prayed, away from newspapers and TV. I came out wondering how could I keep that pease, when today I found your wonderful idea of how to change our words and thoughts, from negative to positive. I am going to do it and spread the word. Thank you

  34. Certainly what we focus on grows!

We have free will and the choice (every second of our lives) as to where we focus our attention.
Happiness, peace, joy and love or the flipside of the coin?

No, it’s not being in denial or taking the ostrich’s head in the sand approach to what is going on in the world, BUT, turning our attention to what can be fixed, made better, supported and helped in these situations.

I had so much I wanted to say on this subject, but then I found this poem in an ebook by Steve Goodier
    http://www.LifeSupportSystem.com

Smiling is infectious, you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner and someone saw my grin,
When he smiled I realized I’d passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile, then I knew its worth,
A single smile, just like mine, could travel ‘round the earth.
    So, if you feel a smile begin, don’t leave it undetected;
Let’s start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected!

    Thanks Cindy
Loads of love and smiles to you all

  44. After 39 years of Rheumatoid Arthritis and seeing myself as a innocent victim sideswiped it, I am now realizing I am the one who made the choices that brought me here. I have begun to see the gift in it and started a blog called Gift of RA at WordPress – something was pushing me to write it and share my journey online. Instead of whingeing and moaning, I wanted it to be positive and encouraging because although I haven’t quite found the gift, it is a much ore positive way to look it it. And if it also helps someone else, then I have succeeded.
Instead of seeing things as gloom and doom, I am working on seeing the gift in the situation – I just realized the gift in a particular situation I have after 41 years. I am a late bloomer and sometimes it takes a little longer for me to “get it”. I have some friends who have a whole lot more to deal with than I do and I truly admire them for their very positive attitude through it all. It is such a gift to know that we help each other whether we know it or not.
If we can gather together enough for a happiness virus, we can change the vibration of the planet and raise it to a higher level.

If love makes the world go round then happiness can keep it spinning forever. I do believe that if each and everyone of us concentrate on being happy and spreading the joy of life to even one person a day we can and will change the world. I live in Israel surrounded by anger hate and jealousy. I long for all of these angry people to feel just 5 mins of pure joy. 5 mins of innocent laughter and the sheer thrill of unconditional love. Now that would really change their point of view. Send out those vibrations. Let us change the world, our world today. Right here and right now.

As far as the bummer type news I personally find it interesting people groan over a few of these different things happening in different parts of the world and some get really tied up in the drama of it all. If that is what you allow in your thought vibration then that is what you will get more of and plenty added to it just to pump you up.

To me the real interesting thing is there is far more good news than bad news and that good news is not reported on much at all. Bad news sells is why it is used and most keep buying it as nourishment for a bad mood.

Won’t it be nice and wonderful for them who seek bad news by the bundle to become enlightened with the way things really work and discover they are far more in control than they understand. That feeling good is our only intent for being here in the first place.

Contrast can be experienced without the drama of a bummer news day to kick start their heart. A smile covers more space and is understood in all countries around the world. No translator needed. One smile begets another and so on.

Heaven help us so to speak if we were to buy air time only to do a 60 second spot of someone smiling only. There is a commercial I would watch and maybe someone might put it on the net and it go viral. To me that is the worse news we need to see at anytime.

Who will buy air time for this? Who will be THE winning smile to go around the globe? Who has the smile to win the World? Who could it be? When you find them show them to me via TV commercial.
Ad times are cheaper than you think off peak time.

When my son Evan was around five my mother was kid sitting him when I went out. On my bike ride home I met a friend who had just come from my house who told me that Evan was missing and that my mother was very worried. I got home and there were several policemen looking around the yard and into every inch of our small house. I joined in but something told me not to worry. As I walked methodically through the house my eyes
came to rest on the futon in the corner of the living room. There was a red fleece blanket that was rolled into a sort of cylinder, I looked again and saw a strand of red hair, only a slightly different shade of red just barely visible at the top of the roll. When I called everybody into the room and pointed this we all cracked up. In seconds five anxious adults went from worry and anxiety to relief and laughter.

It was nice to find this article today, of all days, the first day of the New Year 01/01/11 hmmm. I think it’s a great omen for the New Year!

I Loved the aricle Cyndi! and Everyones Happy Memories! :)

I was thinking about something that always makes me laugh, it was a dream I had. Here it is, & Laugh on!

I was at some lake with my grandson, he was sitting on the beach, I was diving down in the deep water finding all these huge different crystals and other things and bring them up to the beach.
Then from there I was in a parking lot going into art class.
I found a couple of joints in the lot, and since I don’t smoke it I just gave them to my art teacher and told her maybe she could find someone that wanted them.
Time for class to begin, I am sitting at my desk and the teacher says “Alright class, get out your Leggle Spackle”.
Funny thing I was reaching to get it out of my desk when I woke up (Darn alarm :) .
I still laugh out loud when I think of it. WHAT the Heck is “Leggel Spackle”!?
