How to Clear the Negative Energy in Your Life – 3 Easy Steps

I recently received an email from a woman asking how to clear the negative energy in her life.  In the email she notes…

Every time I think positive and expect positive things and my husband is around I feel a negative feeling coming upon me.   I then unconsciously sabotage  my positivity and I become very frustrated and overwhelmed about the whole thing. How do I stop myself from doing this and remain positive and feel calm so that I am able to achieve the success that I want?

As we consciously take steps to become more positive we will become more and more sensitive to the negative thought patterns of the people around us.  It becomes critical, therefore, to learn how to clear the negative energy in your life.

Below I have listed 3 Easy Steps that I have found invaluable in my life and in the lives of those who I have shared them with.  I welcome you to work with one or all in your own efforts to clear the negative energy in your life.

1)Read A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle.

In this book Eckhart Tolle discusses what he describes as “The Pain Body”.   This Pain Body resides in all of us to varying degrees and every once in a while it wakes up and wants to feed.  The pain body feeds on the negative feelings of others and thereby says and does those things that in the past has elicited the responses it crave.

By just becoming aware of the pain body in others it becomes possible to disconnect from your typical  automatic response.  And in the moment of disconnection you become aware that you are free to respond in whatever way you feel will serve your highest and best, regardless of what the world is showing you.

2) Send out Feelings of Love and Compassion

I have done work with people where I muscle test them “strong” (where their energy is good) and then have other people direct negative thoughts towards them and they almost immediately muscle test weak (for a good description of how you can muscle test yourself sign up for Empowered Spirit News by clicking here).

I then have the participants send loving thoughts and the person tests strong again.

What is very interesting about this work is that when I instruct the person I am testing to think loving thoughts – they remain strong no matter what thoughts others are sending in their direction.

In other words – as long as you can keep your mind filled with loving thoughts  any negative energy sent your way does not affect you.

3) Remember to Disconnect

Disconnecting from those that seem to bring you down can be much easier than you think.  One very powerful technique is to simply begin listing how you and the other person in question are different, ie..

I am female   He is a male
I have brown hair   He has red hair
I am 5’2” tall   He is 5’10”

You repeat about 5 differences in this way, making sure that the difference you list have no emotional charge attached to them (telling yourself I am right and he is wrong will not produce the results you are looking for)

After you have listed the differences take a few deep breathes.

As you breath out imagine you are returning all of the other persons energy back to them.

As you breath in take all your energy back.

That’s it…

Simple and effective.

These are just 3 of many powerful  strategies on how to clear the negative energy in your life.

    I have the same problem with negative energy around me, but sometimes I think it comes from relatives being jealous. The 3rd method seems possible, I will try it and let you know.

    I have the same problem, expecially with people around me that have deep relationship with me, exp : my parents, my husband, and my son. As soon as they feel negative emotions, I was influenced by their negativity.

    I try my techniques and it works.

    1. I say affirmation statement, like : I have more positive energy now, I am a mature person, I always smile whatever happened, I always happy whatever happened, etc. After I say that (in my heart), their emotion getting better. Sometimes I feel amazing, but I just do it, because it works for me almost all the times.

    2. This methods maybe difficult, but it also works for me. Last times, I don’t believe it, but after I see it works, I always do this. But I think we need to have the strong belief that we are always full of gratitude. In that bad situations, I say that I am gratitude of everythings, although it makes me feel bad, I accept them whatever they are. Then my negative feeling dissapeared.

  3. These are very interesting and helpful tips. Eckhart Tolle’s concept of the pain body, once we become aware of it in us and in others is very helpful in finding love and compassion for ourselves and others, as we realize that sometimes people respond because of previous traumatic experiences and feelings the way they do.I also believe that focusing on our own positive energy we can counteract negative energy that we may be receiving from others. I like the third tip of disconnecting, because it again makes you focus more on yourself than what the other person may be emitting.

    I have read The New Earth and put a lot of Eckhart Tolle’s teachings into practise. I am very sensitive to energies and whenever I come across negative energies, be it from my husband or children, I become very present in the moment and become more aware of my breathing and my thoughts….after a while I see the person with the negative emotions completely calm down and change their attitude. If at times I focus too much on what they are putting out, the situation gets worse…..so I have learnt it is more important to focus on what you are thinking and sending out than what the other person is thinking…become present in the moment and focus on your breathing. You can mentally chant ” I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy” (an affirmation I learnt from the book the Master Key System)…. Keeps you focused and helps in not getting involved in the negative drama going on around you.

    I have been going through a negative patch with my only son, his wife and his daugter, my granddaughter, for a long time now. They have nearly drowned me in their negative energy, suffused with emotional blackmail. This is fuelled by the mistaken belief that I am a widow, alone, my son, my only offspring – and therefore, fair game, and an emotional punching bag.

    I have done everything possible within my competence or power to defuse the tension, to calm and placate them, to no avail. I have employed positive thinking – “Dear Everybody, I love you.”, and affirmations such as “I forgive and forget all my enmity and anger, I send out thoughts of love and goodwill to all mankind. And what I affirm for myself, I desire also for all members of my family, that they too may experience all the joy that I experience, and learn how to bring their lives into harmony with the Infinite Principle of Good.” They remain vengeful, hateful, disrespectful, and determinedly implacable.

    I have now since chosen the disconnection option, concluding that it is better really, to avoid those who never seem to be satisfied with whatever positive, mediating and concialtory gestures are made to appease them. I recently finally decided that to continue in this abusive and unedifying relationship would tantamount to giving permission to continue to be walked all over. So the hole, and plans, for negative, selfish, needy, people is, finally, plugged.

    Whereas before, my waking moments and head were filled with guilt, misery and frustration, perpetually worrying about what it was I had possibly not been doing right, I am now eager to start each new day. I am now ready to think differently, to do things differently than I did them before. I am now living my life with grace and ease, rather than with emotional and psychological struggle volatility and hardship. I am ready to enjoy peace and joy that awaits me – that is ready to welcome me in.

    Thanks so much for these tips.

    I have been feeling such strong and bizarre negative energies around me for at least a week. (Including almost being hit by cars, having people say very rude and insulting things to me, … All of these have felt part of a concerted energy force.)

    I have felt (as I always do) that I must be doing things to attract, or at least allow, these energies. So today I decided to google and look around for tips on how to deal and recover (pushing out the bad and letting in more good energy). I really appreciate these tips and will use them. It can be so hard to keep sending love and compassion when being assailed with negativity. But this is perhaps the time when it most important to do so — especially for my own positive survival.

    I have found the release technique very helpful in eliminating negative energy. I think the Sedona Method is the same, but I have not tried it. Both sprang from Lester Levinson’s teachings. You basically imagine a door or window from your belly area- this is where we hold on to alot of emotion- and let go of any need of control, need of security, or need for approval. It is a practice, and I recommend looking into the courses and getting some support around releasing if you are interested.

    Thank you so much for these tips. I absorb energies very easily and quickly but it’s easier for me to absorb negative energies when what I want is peace. Deep breathing does help raise my energy level.

    What I do sometimes is to send loving thoughts by actually saying “I love you” to people I have been in conflict with. It raises my vibrations and some of them have come to me as if nothing ever happened and they are so nice. They have even helped me without being asked. Like my neighbor wouldn’t mow his yard that is close to mine. Now sometimes he mows more than he needs to and he also plowed my sidewalk for me last winter. And all I did was send him love without saying anything to him. Thoughts are so powerful.:) This reminds me. I need to send some loving thoughts to someone else today.:)
