			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<!-- google_ad_section_start --><p>In a recent phone conversation my client asked “<em>Why is it that every time I say I am finally ready to put begin my program or put greater effort into it, I get sick</em>?”  That was a great question!  And one that makes perfect sense.  The human body is an incredible healing machine and when given the support it needs, <em>will heal itself</em>, since all healing comes from within.  Thus being smart, the body will hold on, and hold on, and hold on, until given the command to do something different.  When a person states, “<em>I am ready for change</em>”, the body says “<em>Yippeee.. I CAN FINALLY HEAL!</em>” (translation:  I can finally let go of all of the junk i&#8217;ve been holding onto.)</p>
<p><strong><em>The body will heal itself when given the support it needs</em></strong>.  Part of this healing process is to assist the body in the elimination of accumulated or trapped toxins thus providing a way for the whole body system to regain balance, harmony and alignment.  This process can be called <strong><em>cleansing</em></strong> or <strong><em>detoxification. </em></strong>For ease on your brain, I am going to split this article into three parts.  Part 1 will focus on the Skin, Respiratory Tract and Lymphatic System.  Part 2 will focus on the GI Tract, Liver and Kidneys.  Part 3 will bring in detoxification via the Emotional Body.</p>
<p>Toxins accumulate from a variety of reasons including but not limited to: stress, the use of antibiotics; the misuse of alcohol; improper diet including a high intake of refined wheat, refined sugar, artificial sweeteners, too much of, or a lack of protein; and a lack of stomach acid.  One of the prime functions of stomach acid is to facilitate the breakdown of proteins.  Low stomach acid may prevent the complete breakdown of proteins, preventing them from being fully assimilated thus leaving food for bacteria to grow.</p>
<p>There are a variety of ways we can cleanse or detoxify the body and assist it in eliminating those toxins.  Methodologies <em>can include</em> the use of eliminative herbs that act as laxatives, diuretics, diaphoretics (promote sweating) and blood purifiers; the use of enema, colemea or colonics to assist the bowel in the elimination of the toxins; and the use of skin brushing, movement, and meditation.</p>
<p>On a physical level, the body will eliminate toxins via the SKIN, our largest cleansing organ; via the RESPIRATORY TRACT which includes the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea and lungs; via the LYMPHATIC SYSTEM; via the GI or gastrointestinal TRACT which includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine (bowel line) and rectum; via the LIVER and via the KIDNEYS.</p>
<p>I could talk/write for hours on detoxifying the body (just ask Jim, hee hee hee hee).  My intuition says you would find greater value in knowing a few ways within each of the above listed avenues to explore this wonderful process of <em>letting go of what is not you</em>.  So here we go.</p>

<p>Our SKIN is also known as our third kidney and considered to be the largest cleansing organ.</p>
<p><strong><em> </em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em>Dry skin brushing:</em></strong> is one method which greatly enhances detoxification and cleansing.  Brush dry skin immediately before showering or bathing.  Start with the feet and gently brush up toward the heart.  Brush from the extremities toward the center.  Brush gently in a circular motion around your abdomen and breast/chest area.  A proper dry skin brush is made of vegetable bristles that are neither too stiff nor too soft.  It shouldn’t scratch, but you should feel some friction against the skin.  It takes approximately ten minutes to dry brush your entire body.  This process feels invigorating as dead cells are allowed to sloughed off the body.  Another &#8216;method&#8217; of skin brushing or <strong><em>scraping</em></strong> can be enjoyed while sitting in a <strong><em>Dry Sauna</em></strong>.  The Dry Sauna will soften the skin and allow the body to sweat.  As toxins are leaving the body via the skin, you can use a brush or your finger nails to &#8216;brush&#8217; or &#8216;scrape&#8217; off the top layer of skin.  Again this will feel invigorating.</p>
<p><strong><em>Bath Soaks </em></strong>are another wonderful method used to release what we are not!.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong><em>Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar Bath</em></strong> can be used<strong> </strong>when the body is too acidic.  This soak is a quick way of restoring the body’s acid-alkaline balance.  1 cup to 2 quarts of Braggs ACV  is added to a bathtub of warm water.  Soak for a good 20 mins to remove excess uric acid in the body.  This soak is especially good for the joints, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, and gout.  If your skin smells of ACV you can enjoy a quick shower to remove the residue from the bath.</li>
<li><strong><em>Epson Salts Baths</em></strong> are known to  pull toxins from the body.  Varieties can include:</li>
<li><strong><em>Epsom Salts + Ginger:</em></strong> to open pores, eliminate toxins, and to eliminate pain.  Stir one cup of epsom salts and 2 tablespoons of ginger in a cup of water first, then add to the bath.  Do not remain in the tub for more than 30 minutes.</li>
<li><strong><em>Epsom Salts + Sea Salts + Sesame Oil</em></strong>: helps with dry skin and stress.  Combine 1 cup of Epsom salt + 1 cup of sea salt (from a health food store), +1 cup of sesame oil and put into a warm to hot tub of water and soak for 20 minutes.  Pat yourself dry.</li>
<li><strong><em>Bentonite Clay Baths</em></strong><strong> </strong>are considered a <em>fast</em> detoxification method.   The Bentonite Clay will absorb up to 40% of its size in toxins.  (NOTE: While bentonite is a great absorber, it is widely used to seal well-casings and ponds.  It would very likely seal many septic systems too, costing thousands to repair. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Use sparingly or with caution</span>!)  Soak 2 to 4 pounds of bentonite clay in a flat container overnight to dissolve it.  Add your desired amount of clay to your tub of warm water.  Soak time will depend on the amount of clay used.  With 2 pounds of bentonite you could soak for one hour; with 4 pounds you would soak only about 30 minutes. The more bentonite used, the faster the detoxification.  Again USE CAUTION here!!  You might even consider starting with 1 pound of clay.</li>

<p>We can provide elimination pathways for the RESPIRATORY TRACK and LYMPH System with <em>exercise</em>.  Each and every time you challenge or expand your Lungs, you are allowing the body to release toxins.  Lymph, transports nutrients to the cells but also exports toxins.  Lymph grabs particles too large to enter the bloodstream, then those particles get attacked by immune cells in the lymph nodes.  The lymph system has to be<em> stimulated</em> unlike our blood, which has to be pumped.  Ways to <em>stimulate</em> the lymph are through skin brushing, massage, and exercise.  You have lymph nodes in the arm pits, and femoral arteries so it makes sense that you will stimulate those nodes when you move your arms and legs.  Note: water consumption is critical for lymph flow.<br />

<p><strong>Suggestions for Movement:</strong></p>
<li>Move your arms during a BRISK walk.  You can swing them or pump them.  If you would like to add some resistance to the move, carry small weights in your hands.</li>
<li>Any movement that uses ARMS and LEGS will move your lymph (ball toss, lunges, step ups on a bench etc)</li>
<li>Running or Jogging (moves both body parts and tells your lungs to release)</li>
<li>Change up your lung expansion during your cardio sessions by doing spikes every 30 seconds.  Meaning go from a lower level to a higher level of intensity every 30 seconds</li>
<li>Change up your intervals to every 45 seconds</li>
<li>How about 10 seconds down with 20 seconds up</li>

<p>As the center of the cardiovascular system, the heart plays an important role in the life and health of the human body. It is responsible for delivering oxygen-rich blood to other parts of the body and regulates many areas of our auto immune system.</p>
<p>When assessing our health, the very first vital sign the doctor or health worker seeks is our heartbeat. This 10-ounce muscle can pump around 2,000 gallons of blood through some <strong>60,000 miles of blood vessels each day</strong>. By comparison, a faucet would need to be turned on all the way for around 45 years to put out enough water to equal the amount of blood pumped by the heart in an average lifetime.</p>
<p>The heart generates its own electrical power and it can continue to beat even when taken out of the body, as long as it is supplied with enough oxygen. The energy the heart creates is enough to drive a truck 20 miles each day; and if you collect that energy within a person’s lifetime you’d have enough to drive to the moon and back.</p>
<p>In the human fetus, the heart starts beating even before the brain has developed. And in more sublime ways, the heart continues to demonstrate its importance. Since the dawn of time it has been considered the seat of <strong>emotion, virtue, courage and wisdom</strong>.</p>
<p>Ancient cultures believed the heart has a hand in determining our decisions. Poets and romantics have always celebrated the heart as the embodiment of love, romance and passion. Artists have rendered the heart in an infinite number of creative and surprising ways — from fiercely burning to being hard as stone.</p>
<p>In his classic “The Little Prince,” the writer <em>Antoine de Saint-Exupery</em> forever elevated it by declaring that “it is only with the heart that one can see rightly.”</p>
<p>It’s ironic that science and human understanding are finally beginning to understand and validate <strong>what human consciousness has always been certain about:</strong> there’s more to the heart than meets the eye.</p>
<p>Beyond merely pumping blood to the rest of the body, scientists have discovered that the heart may actually have a larger, more robust role in directing and aligning many systems in the human body so that they all function harmoniously. A new discipline has emerged called neurocardiology, and it focuses on the nervous system within the heart (also referred to as the “brain” of the heart) and how the heart and the brain communicate with each other through the nervous system.</p>
<p>That the heart and the brain maintain a constant dialogue is significant. It had been previously thought that the brain directed all the other biological mechanisms of the human body. New evidence suggests that <strong>the brain is the object of control</strong>, rather than the controller.</p>
<p>In 2007 the eminent neuroscientist Dr. Richard Davidson of Harvard University presented his research on how social and emotional learning changes the brain. This and other discoveries tell us that the heart actually controls the brain, particularly in matters of <strong>intuition, creativity, spirituality and other “right-brain” modes</strong> of thinking. Continuing research at the <a title="Heart math" href="http://www.heartmath.org/" target="_blank">Institute of Heart Math</a> (IHM) has discovered that the heart does communicate with the brain through four channels:</p>
<p>1. Neurological communication through the nervous system</p>
<p>2. Biophysical communication through pulse waves</p>
<p>3. Biochemical communication via hormones</p>
<p>4. Energetic communication through magnetic fields</p>
<p>The heart sends instructions to the brain through each of these channels.</p>
<p>The mind then responds to these cues from the heart by transforming its state accordingly; it synchronizes with the heart’s current state. <strong>The interaction is nothing less than fascinating.</strong></p>
<p>If the heart, for example, is in a negative emotional state, then it sends corresponding negative cues to the brain. The brain processes these negative messages and directs the rest of the body accordingly. That is why when you suffer from a negative emotion, the rest of your being seems to echo that negativity as well.</p>
<p>Another significant finding by the IHM is that coherence may even occur between two different people, <strong>when the magnetic field generated by one person’s heart synchronizes with that of the other.</strong> Perhaps this is what people truly mean when they say they feel “good vibes” around certain people, or “bad vibes” when they are around other people.</p>
<p>The importance of these two new discoveries opens up infinite new possibilities in the growth of human consciousness and understanding.</p>
<p>If the heart can indeed influence the mind, then it would be possible to create positive opportunities for the individual simply by <strong>encouraging positive thoughts and emotions</strong>, and by keeping the heart in a positive or happy state.</p>
<p>This, in fact, is the mission of the IHM, which is dedicated to help people combat stress in order to induce desirable developments in their lives. The second discovery — that heart activity between two or more people can be synchronized — means that happiness (or any emotional state, for that matter) <strong>can be communicated and shared</strong> with others, causing a contagious wave of shared thoughts and emotions.</p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial;"> <strong>The word “asthma” is derived from the Greek word “panos,”</strong> which means “to pant.” Ancient Chinese healers called it <em>xiao-chiran,</em> or wheezy breath, and believed asthma to be caused by an<img style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2012-12-29_bronchials.jpeg" border="1" alt="lungs and bronchial tubes" width="212" height="144" /> imbalance of the life force they call <em>chi</em> (Chee), also called <em>Qi</em> (Key). They re-balanced the life force by means of acupuncture, diet,<br />
exercise, herbs and massage. These techniques continue to be used in the Chinese tradition to treat asthma. Ancient Hindus used meditative techniques to control the breath and help manage the disease. Practicing medicine in the court of the sultan of Egypt, 12th Century rabbi and physician Maimonides recommended less food, drink, and sex as a treatment, along with eating chicken soup. By the 1800s, asthma treatment had “progressed” to blood-letting and tobacco smoking. Live and learn. </span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Asthma is so prominent in Western societies</strong> it hardly needs a definition. Almost 15 million Americans and 150 million people worldwide suffer with the ailment. Nine million American children suffer with the illness. </span><span>(1)</span><span style="font-family: arial;"> It is estimated that the health care costs in the U.S. for treating asthma exceed USD $6 billion annually, with over 500,000 annual asthma-related hospitalizations and more than 5,000 annual deaths. </span><span>(2) </span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Asthma differs from emphysema</strong> in that asthma is seen as only a temporary obstruction or blockage of the bronchial airways—caused by inflammation, swelling and constriction of the bronchial tube linings, and an increase in mucus production which blocks the passage of air. Modern medicine considers from 70-90% of asthma cases to be an allergic reaction to environmental stimuli such as cat dander, dust mites, foods, molds, etc. The remaining cases can be caused by varying factors including exercise, viral and bacterial infections, and genetic predisposition. </span><span>(3) </span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify; font-style: italic;"><strong>Pharmaceutical drugs and inhalers</strong> are modern medicine’s approach to asthma symptom control. Prednisone® is a commonly-prescribed corticosteroid drug (different from anabolic steroids) <img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 14px; margin-bottom: 0px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2012-12-29_inhaler.jpeg" border="1" alt="boy with inhaler" width="196" height="154" />used to treat asthma, as well as rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. John Wong of Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston tracked the use of Prednisone for 15 years in 4,993 patients with rheumatoid arthritis.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify; font-style: italic;"><strong>He recently reported that even low doses</strong> of the drug can cause serious side-effects. Patients taking a daily dosage of only 5-10 mg of oral Prednisone were 200% more likely to develop hip fractures and 250% more likely to develop cataracts than those who took no Prednisone. Even though asthmatics usually inhale the drug, studies have shown both methods of administration lead to similar absorption characteristics. <span>(4) </span></p>

<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>The hormone <em>epinephrine</em>, also called <em>adrenaline</em>,</strong> is an additional drug used in over-the-counter (OTC) inhalers—and is yet another drug that can cause serious side-effects. In a study reported in the journal <em>Chest</em>, </span><span>(5) </span><span style="font-family: arial;"> researchers found 13 deaths linked to the use of epinephrine inhalers.</span></p>
<p><em><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><strong>Neural Therapy</strong></span></em></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Dr. Harry Philibert of New Orleans,</strong> LA is the originator of an asthma-treatment technique which is a form of Neural Therapy. Dr. Philibert discovered that following an injection of a local anesthetic such as procaine into a “trigger point” over each shoulder blade (scapula), <img style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 11px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2012-12-29_thermo-man.jpeg" border="1" alt="Rainbow Man" width="141" height="191" />asthma symptoms disappeared or were significantly reduced for most patients. As reported in the <em>Journal of Family Practice</em> </span><span>(6)</span><span style="font-family: arial;">, Dr. Philibert achieved an 84% total remission rate in over 4,000 of his asthmatic<br />
patients.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>There’s more science to this</strong> than may first meet the eye. Trigger points such as the two over the scapulas are connected to the autonomic nervous system which controls involuntary actions such as constriction and relaxation of the bronchial airways. It is in this way the technique gains its effectiveness. <p><em><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><strong>The Buteyko Method</strong></span></em></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>During the late 1940s,</strong> a Russian medical student named Konstantin Buteyko noticed that patients in the acute respiratory ward became more ill when their breathing rate increased (hyperventilation), and that those who reduced their breathing rate began to recover. Although this phenomenon had been noticed previously, Buteyko went beyond the observation to develop a set of breathing techniques which effectively treat the symptoms of asthma. (This is somewhat reminiscent of the Indian meditative techniques of using breath control to reduce the symptoms of asthma.)</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Dr. Buteyko noticed that asthmatics</strong> breathe two to three times the rate of normal, non-asthmatics. His research over more than a 30-year period defined the effects of hyperventilation on the human body. Based on his observations, Buteyko developed techniques to normalize breathing patterns, reverse symptoms, and decrease the need for medication. In a research study published in the <em>Medical Journal of Australia,</em> </span><span>(7) </span><span style="font-family: arial;"> after 12 weeks of practicing the techniques, patients were able to reduce their bronchodialator medication by 96%, and their anti-inflammatory medication by 49%. <p><em><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><strong>Xylitol</strong></span></em></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><strong>Xylitol (ZY-li-tol) is a five carbon sugar alcohol</strong> with a sweetening power similar to sucrose, the common sugar obtained from sugarcane and sugar beets. It was first isolated by French and German chemists during the 1890s. The word is derived from the Greek word “xylan,” meaning wood (e.g., the wooden bars of the xylophone), one of the sources from which it is commercially derived.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong><img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2012-12-29_sugar.jpeg" border="1" alt="Xylitol Crystals" width="151" height="225" />Xylitol functions by occupying the receptor sites</strong> that bacteria would ordinarily use to attach themselves to other cells. Also, bacteria are unable to ferment xylitol in their metabolism, and are reduced up to 90%. It combats three species of bacteria that live exclusively in the nasal passages and are responsible for most respiratory infections: <em>Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenza,</em> and <em>Moraxella catarrhalis.</em></span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;">
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> <strong>In addition to a number of asthma symptoms</strong> which are caused by bacterial infections, it has been found that by spraying a solution containing<br />
xylitol directly into the nasal passages, the allergens and irritants that are the primary cause of asthma are effectively washed away. Developed by<br />
Dr. Lon Jones, a Texas physician and researcher, Xlear® (pronounced “clear”) is a nasal wash containing xylitol, saline, purified water and grapefruit seed extract as a preservative. <p><em><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><strong>Vitamin C</strong></span></em></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>Considerable research has shown that vitamin C </strong>is a very effective asthma treatment as well as an effective treatment for other allergies. It not only works as a preventive, but is effective in altering the course of an attack in progress. Physicians have observed that a teaspoon of powdered (crystalline) vitamin C (about 4,000 mg) is able to immediately halt an asthma or allergy attack. As a preventive, two to four grams (2,000-4,000 mg) per day is recommended.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>According to the <em>Tufts University Diet &amp; Nutrition Letter </em></strong></span><span>(8)</span><span style="font-family: Arial;">, as vitamin C intake increases, the risk of asthma and other allergic attacks decreases. In a recent 14-week double-blind study of asthmatic patients, the vitamin C group who took one gram (1,000 mg) per day experienced more than a 75% decrease in asthma attacks compared to the placebo group, and the attacks were less severe. <strong><img style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2012-12-29_citrus.jpeg" border="1" alt="Vitamin C in Citrus Fruits" width="157" height="157" /></strong>All thirteen of the 22 patients in the vitamin C group who had no attacks during the 14-week testing period had at least one attack in the two month period following treatment.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>Had the daily dosage been higher</strong>—in the 2,000-4,000 mg range—the results likely would have been even better. Lending credence to this is a recent study reported in the<em> American Journal of the Dietetic Association </em></span><span>(9) </span><span style="font-family: Arial;"> in which it was found that participants given 2,000 mg of vitamin C per day for two weeks experienced a 40% reduction in blood histamine levels, whereas a dosage of 500 mg had an insignificant effect.</span></p>

<p><em><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><strong>Lyprinol® </strong></span></em></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>A powerful anti-inflammatory oil extract</strong> from the New Zealand green-lipped mussel is marketed under the name Lyprinol.<strong><img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2012-12-29_clamshells.jpeg" border="1" alt="mussels" width="196" height="137" /></strong> Its use for asthma became known when elite European marathon runners and cyclists began using the product to combat exercise-induced bronchial constriction caused by inflammation and swelling. Many studies have shown Lyprinol to reduce the need for inhalers by as much as 50%, increase lung capacity, and reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks without adverse side-effects.</span></p>
<p><em><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><strong>Water</strong></span></em></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>As discussed above, </strong>Dr. F. Batmanghelidj believes that chronic dehydration of the body accounts for many of the body’s ills, including asthma. It is drought management, according to Dr. Batman, that constricts the free passage of air so that the body retains the water vapor normally expelled in the breath. The solution—drink two to three quarts of pure (not tap) water daily.</span></p>

In humans, they cause a number of familiar diseases including AIDS, herpes, polio, smallpox, and many others. <img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 11px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2011-11-17_woman-brain.jpeg" border="1" alt="" width="198" height="149" />Both the common cold and influenza are respiratory infections caused by viruses. While symptoms of a cold include a runny nose, sneezing, and sore throat, influenza—the flu—is typically more severe, with symptoms including fever; headache; aches and pains; lethargy; and fatigue and weakness that may last for days or weeks. </span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Both colds and flu viruses</strong> are transmitted by contacting respiratory secretions of an infected person (by shaking hands, touching an infected doorknob, etc., and then touching the mouth, eyes, or nose), or by breathing infective particles which can linger in the air for up to three hours.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Outside the body, </strong>viruses are metabolically inert and said to be in a grey area between a living and non-living state. In order to multiply and be infective, viral particles must attach themselves to healthy (though often weakened) cells, <img style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 11px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2011-11-17_spiny-green-hooter.jpeg" border="1" alt="Virus outside body" width="202" height="151" />take over their reproductive capabilities, and begin reproducing additional infective particles, called <em>virions.</em> Influenza viruses typically gain access to healthy host cells by means of spike-like protrusions projecting from their bodies.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Agencies such as</strong> the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have publicized that roughly 35,000 Americans perish annually from so-called “seasonal” influenzas. However, according to the CDC’s own publication  <em>National Vital Statistics Reports</em>, only several hundred fatalities occur on an average year that are directly attributable to the influenza virus —mostly to the elderly and those with preexisting conditions or weakened immunity. The remaining deaths are attributable to secondary bacterial infections such as pneumonia.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>There are specific actions</strong> one must take in order to both prevent and treat flu viruses. Prevention is significantly aided by healthy diet and lifestyle choices as well as regular supplementation with immune-enhancing substances. Among the various immune enhancers two vitamins, vitamins C and D, are particularly effective in the treatment of both colds and influenza.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Vitamin C is an old but powerfully-effective standby. </strong>It is both antibacterial and antiviral and, as such, is effective in treating flu viruses and their bacterial complications, as well as cold viruses. Vitamin C works on several fronts. It energizes natural killer (NK) cells which attack pathogenic microbes even with no previous exposure to them. It also energizes macrophages, another of the immune systems front line of defenses against infection. Vitamin C also helps the body produce hydrogen peroxide, a tool used by immune cells against infectious microbes. </span><img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2011-11-17_vitamin-c.jpeg" border="0" alt="Vitamin C bottle" width="110" height="176" /></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>In the case of a bacterial or viral infection,</strong> high doses of vitamin C must be taken—in the range of at least 1,000-5,000 mg (1-5 grams) per hour. Treatment should begin immediately after onset—the sooner the better after symptoms are noticed. The only side-effect is diarrhea when bowel tolerance is exceeded. If the stool loosens, decrease the dosage slightly. When ill, greatly increased quantities of vitamin C are tolerated by the body before symptoms of diarrhea occur.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>In one representative study,</strong> 700 college students were administered one gram of vitamin C per hour for the initial six hours following the onset of cold and/or flu symptoms, and three grams for several days thereafter. Both cold and flu symptoms were reduced by 85% (1).</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>The <em>ascorbic acid</em> form</strong> of vitamin C rather than Ester C® or other buffered forms should be used orally—either as a pill or powder (crystals). One teaspoon of powder equals  approximately four grams. Although the buffered forms of vitamin C avoid the possibility of diarrhea, they are less effective in comparison to ascorbic acid. High-dose intravenous vitamin C is one of the most effective treatments for colds, flu, and even more virulent pathogens such as avian (bird) flu.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><img style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2011-11-17_bottle.jpeg" border="1" alt="Vitamin C Vial" width="118" height="165" /><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Pioneer vitamin C researcher,</strong> Robert Cathcart, M.D. (1932-2007) used vitamin C to treat all types of flu including bird flu. He demonstrated that even potentially lethal cases of bird flu and other flus having serious lung involvement can be treated effectively with massive doses of vitamin C, either orally (as ascorbic acid powder) at the level of <em>12 grams every 15 minutes</em> (until diarrhea is produced—and then reduce the amount slightly), or preferably intravenously (as sodium ascorbate) by a qualified alternative/integrative physician at the level of <em>150-300 grams per each 24-hour period.</em></span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>The respiratory tract is the initial attack point</strong> of bird flu (H5N1) and some other flu strains. (See the discussion of the <em>cytokine storm,</em> below under vitamin D, for further information on this topic.) The damage inflicted upon the lungs is caused by the generation of high levels of free radicals. Vitamin C is the optimal treatment/antidote for this condition, as <em>it is the only substance/antioxidant known</em> that can be taken in sufficiently large quantities—<img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2011-11-17_vitC-box.jpeg" border="0" alt="Lipspheric Box" width="197" height="131" />preferably intravenously but also orally, depending upon the severity of the condition—to counteract virtually any amount of free radical pathology produced by any disease state, including the high level of free radical pathology produced in the lungs by various strains of influenza. Because the body’s tolerance to orally-ingested ascorbic acid increases in proportion to the degree of toxicity of the illness, up to and beyond 200 grams per 24-hours of orally-ingested ascorbic acid usually can be tolerated in severely ill persons without causing diarrhea. The use of <em>liposomal </em>vitamin C is the most effective means of orally ingesting the substance without surpassing bowel tolerance. Liposomes are tiny spheres (100-500 nanometers in width) made from essential phospholipids, the same material as cell membranes. The vitamin C  is contained within these tiny spheres and when taken orally, has an absorption rate of about 90%.</span></p>

Vitamin D is unique in the vitamin world in that it is technically not a vitamin. It is the only known precursor of <em>calcitriol</em>—activated vitamin D—a powerful steroid hormone that regulates genetic expression in hundreds of  genes. (2) Of the roughly 25,000 (protein-coding) genes in the human genome, as many as 10%—or 2,500 genes—are “activated” by vitamin D alone. As such, it is a master controller of a vast array of physical mechanisms throughout the body as it turns various genes “on” and “off.” Vitamin D also stimulates the white blood cells to produce hundreds of <em>antimicrobial peptides, </em>substances known to attack bacteria, viruses, and fungi. (3) Chief among these is the <em>cathelicidin</em> group of peptides.<br />
</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Vitamin D is naturally produced</strong> by the skin when exposed to the ultraviolet B radiation of sunlight. Doctors and government agencies have given warnings about the dangers of developing skin cancer resulting from overexposure to sunlight. This has led to an epidemic of vitamin D deficiencies in much of the world’s non-equatorial populations. It is now recognized that a deficiency of vitamin D is a major factor in the pathology of many diseases and ailments including autoimmune diseases; birth defects; cancer (at least 17 types); cardiovascular disease; chronic pain; depression; diabetes; hypertension; multiple sclerosis; muscle wasting; muscle weakness; osteoarthritis; and periodontitis. (4)</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>It is recently understood</strong> that cold and flu seasons result largely from a deficiency of vitamin D caused by lack of sunlight in the months between the winter solstice—the shortest day of the year—and the summer solstice— the longest day of the year. (5) Insuring adequate levels of vitamin D intake, especially during this low sunlight window, serves as a powerful preventive—what could be considered the ultimate natural oral “vaccine.” <img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 11px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2011-11-17_sunstreaks.jpeg" border="1" alt="Sun and clouds" width="204" height="127" />Contrary to past understandings, vitamin D researchers now recommend adults obtain a minimum of 1,000-2,000 IU (International Units) daily of vitamin D3 during summer months—especially if one isn&#8217;t receiving regular sun exposure—and double that amount during the late fall, winter, and early spring.  Some have suggested the rule of thumb of 1,000 IU per 25 pounds body weight. Adequate levels can be achieved through one or a combination of: sunlight exposure; dietary intake of vitamin D-rich foods such as cod liver oil; or supplementation with D3—<em>cholecalciferol,</em> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">not</span> D2, ergocalciferol. Pill-form or liquid D3 supplements are the simplest means of achieving the correct amount.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Daily amounts up to at least 10,000 IU</strong> are known to be safe, and some experts believe the non-toxic daily dose may be closer to 40,000 IU. (6) For treating colds or flu, some doctors now recommend 50,000-100,000 IU <img style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2011-11-17_capcloud.jpeg" border="1" alt="Vitamin D Gel Cap" width="196" height="146" />of cholecalciferol daily for several days only, up to the level of 1,000 IU per pound of body weight for three days. According to this protocol, a 200 pound person would take 200,000 IU for three days. To put these dosages into perspective, the skin produces 20,000 IU from 20-30 minutes of “unprotected,” full-body summer sun exposure during hours where the shadow cast by the body is shorter than the body’s height. An SPF 8-rated sun screen reduces vitamin D production by 95%. Optimal blood levels should be maintained from 50-80 ng/mL (nanograms per milliliter), as measured by the 25-hydroxyvitamin D test. <p><em><strong><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: xx-small;">The Cytokine Storm</span></strong></em></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong> Respiratory viruses such as influenza</strong> sometimes cause the immune system to do more harm than good. Non-life-threatening influenza can escalate from a nuisance to a killer because the immune system responds too strongly to an attack by an infectious invader.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>When the lungs are attacked</strong> by an infective microbe such as a virus, the immune system’s T-cells are dispatched to the site. If the infection is not quickly cleared, the T-cells produce molecules which signals them to remain in the lungs and continue combating the infection. At the same time, the immune system goes into overdrive, sending out a second wave of T-cells—resulting in what’s referred to as a <em>cytokine storm.</em> It is this exaggerated immune response rather than the initial infection that is most damaging. Severe inflammation of the lung tissue and an overproduction of mucous potentially block air passages. Hemorrhaging of the lung tissue also can occur. This, in turn, blocks oxygen transfer to the blood which can result in labored breathing and even suffocation.</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>This exaggerated inflammation </strong>is an especially troubling symptom of SARS and H5N1 (and sometimes swine and other flu strains), and the principal cause of their lethality—pneumonia and acute respiratory distress.<img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 8px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/2011-11-17_man-pig-cell.jpeg" border="1" alt="man andpig" width="187" height="140" /> In November 2005, <em>Respiratory Research</em> (7) reported that 24-hours following infection with a human H5N1 strain, for example, there is a 10-fold increase in inflammatory cytokine levels compared to lung cells infected with regular influenza. Thus, in cases where the cytokine storm is present, once the infection is confirmed immune stimulation by agents such as medicinal mushrooms, beta glucan, echinacea, and other immune-enhancing substances should be avoided, and a course of one or a combination of immune regulators should be initiated.<br />
</span></p>
<p style="text-indent: .3in; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><strong>Vitamin D3 is an immune system regulator</strong> which is capable of up-regulating or down-regulating immune function as necessary. In the case of an over-activated immune system which leads to a cytokine storm, vitamin D dampens immune system elements that produce inflammation. High levels of its intake—up to 1,000 IU per pound of body weight for three days (and several days longer if necessary)—should be a front-line treatment in cases of cytokine storm-producing influenza infection. Vitamin D is also useful in cases where the immune system requires up-regulation. As discussed, vitamin C at high dosages is also effective in reducing the free radical damage and inflammation caused by the cytokine storm, as the high-energy electrons donated by vitamin C quell the free radical pathology, hence the inflammation and lung tissue damage.</span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<!-- google_ad_section_start --><p>Diet soda is no better for your health than the regular kind. In fact, the most recent research says it may well actually pose serious risks to your health.</p>
<p>For almost two decades you’ve been told that the diet option has to be the smarter option. And the American Beverage Association (ABA) tells you that diet soda is safe and healthy.</p>
<p>But a controversial new study is showing that diet soda is just as risky as the regular version. In fact, it reveals that diet soda drinkers increase their risk of stroke by a whopping 61 percent!</p>
<p>Can’t believe it’s true? Join us as we review the study… gather the facts… and find out what the experts are saying.</p>
<p><strong>Making the Same Mistake Twice</strong></p>
<p>It’s not the first time that a heavily-marketed, “healthy” alternative has turned out to cause serious health problems.</p>
<p>In the 1970s, the government released guidelines claiming that dietary fat was a big contributor to weight gain and all the related health problems that come with it.</p>
<p>So they told the public to cut their fat intake, launching a low-fat craze. One that generated billions in low-fat food products.</p>
<p>And suddenly Americans were substituting natural, old-fashioned fat for chemical by-products.</p>
<p>Fast forward 40 years and dozens of scientists now believe that the low-fat switch is the direct cause of today’s obesity epidemic.</p>
<p>Now, brand new research shows the same may also be true of sugar-free diet products.</p>
<p><strong>Science Breaks Down Soda Myth</strong></p>
<p>The new study is headed by Dr. Hannah Gardner. She leads research for the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami. She’s published findings that are surprising the scientific community.</p>
<p>She shared her findings with a room full of experts at the 2011 American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference, California.</p>
<p>And those experts are already celebrating her findings.</p>
<p>“Our results suggest that diet soda may not be [a good] substitute for sugar-sweetened beverages,” Dr. Gardner said. “We saw a significant increased risk among those who drank diet soda daily.”</p>
<p>Dr. Gardner looked at information gathered on 2,564 New Yorkers over nine years. During that time, each participant was given regular physicals. Their checkups included blood pressure measurements and blood tests for cholesterol.</p>
<p>The study took into account accepted heart risk factors including lifestyle choices… diet… and exercise. And whether or not they smoked or drank alcohol.</p>
<p>It also focused on how much soda they drank. And the type of soda they drank.</p>
<p>Dr. Gardner reviewed all those stats against heart-related incidents. Across all of that information one fact was clear… there was a 61 percent higher incidence of heart disease in people who drank soda each day than in those who drank no soda at all. It made no difference whether the soda was diet or regular.</p>
<p>Even after eliminating all other accepted risk factors like high blood pressure or cholesterol… diet or regular soda drinkers still had a 48 percent higher rate of heart disease.</p>
<p>Dr. Gardner knows that the results are shocking. Regular soda impacts health in plenty of ways. Now, devoted soda drinkers will have to accept that the diet version seems to offer the same serious risks.</p>
<p>“It’s reasonable to have doubts,” says Dr. Gardner. “But diet soda drinkers need to stay tuned.”</p>
<p>So how is it that diet soda still increases your risk for heart disease?</p>
<p>Until now we’ve been told that the sugar in soda causes our weight to balloon and our blood sugar to spike. Both are factors in developing diabetes and heart disease.</p>
<p>But diet soda has been marketed as sugar free. And, in theory, free of sugar-related health risks.</p>
<p>Diet soda may not contain sugar… But it does contain artificial sweeteners that are cooked up in a lab… and create complex hormonal reactions that our bodies were never designed to process.</p>
<p><strong>Evidence Builds Against Diet Sodas</strong></p>
<p>Dr. Gardner’s results precisely mirror findings from a similar study done four years earlier.</p>
<p>This study appeared in <em>Circulation</em> in January 2007. That’s the official journal of the American Heart Association.</p>
<p>The study was part of the Framingham Heart Study. It was headed up by Dr. Ravi Dhingra. He’s a senior lecturer at Harvard Medical School and a practicing M.D.</p>
<p>His study clearly linked diet soda to metabolic syndrome, which is a big factor in developing heart disease.</p>
<p>“In those who drink soft drinks daily, there was increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome,” said Dr. Dhingra.</p>
<p>The study looked at 9,000 people over four years. Researchers found that people who drank one or more soda drinks each day had a 50 percent higher incidence of metabolic syndrome.</p>
<p>But that wasn’t the most significant thing about the study. It was the discovery that diet soda was just as risky.</p>
<p>“We were struck by the fact that it didn’t matter whether it was a diet or regular soda,” says co-author Dr. Ramachandran Vasan. “The association with increased risk was present.”</p>
<p>Dr. Vasan is a practicing M.D. He’s also a professor and lead researcher at Boston University School of Medicine.</p>
<p>Both researchers were surprised by this finding. It didn’t seem to make sense.</p>
<p>So they looked at a smaller group of participants. For this study they focused only on people drinking diet soda. And they found that this specific group “had a 50 – 60 percent increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome.”</p>
<p>This is almost exactly what the new 2011 study found.</p>
<p>The authors couldn’t explain why diet soda would also increase risk of metabolic syndrome. But their conclusions were very clear.</p>
<p>“If you are drinking soft drinks each day, you’re increasing your risk of developing heart disease,” said Dr. Dhingra.</p>
<p><strong>Shutting Out the 2007 Study</strong></p>
<p>The American Beverage Association (ABA) was quick to defend diet sodas.</p>
<p>“Diet soft drinks are a good option for those looking to cut calories in their beverages,” said Susan Neely. She was the president and CEO of the ABA.</p>
<p>And she was quick to dismiss the study.</p>
<p>“It defies common sense to assert a link between soft drinks and increased risk of heart disease,” she said.</p>
<p>Oddly… the American Heart Association (AHA) later issued a statement about the <em>Circulation</em> report.</p>
<p>The AHA noted that the report “does not show that soft drinks cause risk factors for heart disease.” The AHA offered a vague explanation for the results… that other factors <em>might</em> explain the increased risk of heart disease.</p>
<p>And the AHA and ABA were once more on the same page.</p>
<p>“The AHA acknowledges that the report does not show that soft drinks cause an increased risk of heart disease,” said Neely. “It recognizes that diet soft drinks are a good option for those looking to cut calories in their beverages. We appreciate the AHA clearing up any confusion surrounding this report.”</p>
<p>And that study was quietly shelved away and forgotten. Until now.</p>
<p><strong>Experts Weigh In</strong></p>
<p>This new study is gathering plenty of support from experts in the field. Already several scientists have reviewed the 2011 study and support its findings.</p>
<p>“I first thought the correlation had to be accidental,” says Dr. Patrick Lyden. He’s the chief of neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.</p>
<p>But his early doubts faded after he read and re-read the study. Now he’s convinced the science – and findings – are solid. And that soda drinkers should take it as wake-up call.</p>
<p>He says that he’s already telling his patients to play it safe and skip soda altogether.</p>
<p>Dr. Nehal M. Mehta is the director of cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He’s also reviewed the study. He feels that it’s further evidence that diet soda poses plenty of risks.</p>
<p>He points out that this new study supports the 2007 findings from the <em>Circulation</em> study.</p>
<p>Many other experts support these new findings.</p>
<p>Take Dr. Tudor Jovin. He’s the director of the Stroke Institute at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.</p>
<p>As surprising as the results are… he’s convinced they should be taken seriously. Especially by people with a history of heart problems.</p>
<p>“People with risk factors for vascular disease want to reduce the amount of diet soda they consume,” says Dr. Jovin.</p>
<p>So what can <em>you</em> do? The truth is… there’s only one way to protect your health and that of your family. Cut out soft drinks all together. At the very least, drastically reduce your intake to less than one eight-ounce glass a day.</p>

<p>Well, they shouldn&#8217;t either. Because you&#8217;re eyes don&#8217;t actually see.</p>
<p><img style="margin-right:30px;" src="http://www.evolutionezine.com/model_brain.jpg" alt="model of the brain" align="left" />They&#8217;re merely lenses that pass on information to the visual cortex in the brain. And only there do you see.</p>
<p>So you actually see with your brain, not with your eyes. &#8220;I saw it with my own brain!&#8221; would be a better way to put it.</p>
<p>After all, we decode the visible frequencies of light that our eyes pick up into ‘physical reality&#8217;. Your eyes don&#8217;t send images to your brain of 3D street scenes or whatever we think we see outside of us.</p>
<p>They perceive frequencies and then send them to the brain in the form of electrical signals. And your brain decodes those signals into an apparent 3D reality that we think is outside of us.</p>
<p>What we see is ‘light&#8217;, as it&#8217;s reflected by what&#8217;s called ‘luminous matter&#8217;. ‘Luminous matter&#8217; reflects electromagnetic light, which your eyes can perceive.</p>
<p>But 95 percent (at least) of the mass in the universe is known as ‘dark matter&#8217; or ‘dark energy&#8217;. This ‘stuff&#8217; doesn&#8217;t reflect light, and therefore can&#8217;t be seen by us humans. However, it can be measured by its effect on the part of the universe that we can ‘see&#8217;. That&#8217;s how we know it&#8217;s there.</p>
<p><img style="margin-right:30px;" src="http://www.evolutionezine.com/visual_spectrum.gif" alt="electromagnetic spectrum" align="left" />But anyway, the only light we can see is the light reflected within the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum. And we only see those particular frequencies within that electromagnetic spectrum. And actually, it&#8217;s only a fraction of the spectrum that can be accessed by our human vision:</p>
<p>But there&#8217;s even more&#8230;</p>
<p>The electromagnetic spectrum is only 0.005% of the estimated mass of the universe. And human sight can see only a tiny fraction of these electromagnetic frequencies. So imagine how little of the universe we can actually perceive and decode into ‘physical&#8217; reality!</p>
<p><strong>We&#8217;re virtually blind!</strong></p>
<p>The truth is that we only see what the brain tells us to see. And let&#8217;s take a quick look at what happens before we actually ‘see&#8217;:</p>
<p>•	First, light enters the eye by passing through the outer, transparent layer called the ‘cornea&#8217;.</p>
<p>•	Then it goes on through the pupil, which gets bigger or smaller to allow for more or less light to be let in (depending on the circumstances). This latter process is controlled by the iris (the colored part of the eye).</p>
<p>•	Then it goes to the lens to be focused.</p>
<p>•	After that, it enters the ‘vitreous humor&#8217;, a jelly-like substance behind the lens.</p>
<p>•	And then the light (or information) strikes the retina, which ‘captures&#8217; the image like the film in those good old photo cameras. However, this image recorded on the retina is two-dimensional and upside-down!</p>
<p>•	The next stop is the optic nerve, which in turn sends the image through the brain to the ‘occipital lobe&#8217;. This is where the brain re-assembles the two-dimensional and upside-down image that was delivered by the eyes into the form that we think we are seeing.</p>
<p>So this is really quite a path to travel for what we think is an ‘objective image&#8217; before we actually ‘see&#8217; it. And what&#8217;s even more striking are all the things that happen before we actually ‘see&#8217; the image that we think we see.</p>
<p>After all, what we think is a 3D image that situated outside of us is only constructed when frequencies are recorded as a two-dimensional and upside-down image on the retina. It&#8217;s only later (when the info reaches the ‘occipital lobe&#8217;) that it&#8217;s constructed into a 3D image. And this construction happens in your brain.</p>
<p><strong>So does the world outside of us really exist in the way we think we see it? But wait&#8230; Here&#8217;s another thought-provoking realization:</strong></p>
<p>On the way from the eyes to the visual cortex, the temporal lobes edit and reconstruct up to 50% and more of the ‘light&#8217; or ‘information&#8217; that was perceived by the eyes. In his book The Holographic Universe, the late Michael Talbot [1] writes about the work of neurophysiologist Karl Pribram and others [p. 163]:</p>
<p><em>&#8220;Pribram discovered that the visual information a monkey receives via its optic nerves does not travel directly to its visual cortex, but is first filtered through other areas of its brain.</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;Numerous studies have shown that the same is true of human vision. Visual information entering our brains is edited and modified by our temporal lobes before it is passed on to our visual cortices.</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;Some studies suggest that less than 50 percent of what we ‘see&#8217; is actually based on information entering our eyes. The remaining 50 percent plus is pieced together out of our expectation of what the world should look like (and perhaps out of other sources such as reality fields). The eyes may be the visual organs, but it is the brain that sees.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><strong>Wow! And then consider this&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><strong>What we don&#8217;t ‘see&#8217;, we make up. Seriously, we make it up! Here&#8217;s how&#8230;</strong></p>
<p>Our eyes have a blind spot where the optic nerve connects to the eye in the middle of the retina. We can&#8217;t see anything with that part of the eye. However, the brain weaves the picture together from the information available and ‘fills the hole&#8217;.</p>
<p>So actually, what we believe we are seeing is what we see. Upon constructing the 3D image that we think we eventually ‘see&#8217;, the brain filters and tweaks the information received by filling in holes and matching it to its expectations of what there is to be seen, based on its engrained beliefs. And that latter part makes up for more than 50% of the images we actually ‘see&#8217;!</p>
<p><strong>That&#8217;s quite something! <p>&#8220;Most people will be familiar with overlooking misspelled words. This is because your eyes, or rather your brain, is so accustomed to reading the words in correct spelling, that it simply overlooks a typo. The typo is filtered out of the image by your brain, which causes you to overlook it and see the correct spelling, which is in line with your expectations. This does not happen all the time, but it does happens sometimes, which illustrates the point to make here. Neurophysiologists like Karl Pribram have long been aware of this fact.</p>
<p>(&#8230;)</p>
<p>In relation to the example of the misspelled words, your engrained belief system (the correct spelling of the words you see most of the time) caused your brain to filter out the information (the typo) that was at odds with its conditioned worldview (its expectations).&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Here&#8217;s another excerpt:</strong></p>
<p>&#8220;Likewise, studies have shown that men and women often have trouble communicating accurately with each other, because what one says the other does not hear. Each hears merely whatever supports their belief and prejudice about each other. They pick up only what they want to hear, or what supports their conditioned view of the way things are. This is a psychological phenomenon called ‘selective retention&#8217;.&#8221;<br />
<strong><br />
And here&#8217;s a final one:</strong></p>
<p>&#8220;The catch is that seeing is not just believing. Apparently, ‘believing is also seeing&#8217;.</p>
<p>Because the information picked up by your eyes is edited by your brain according to its engrained belief systems, a large proportion of what you actually ‘see&#8217; is determined by what you believe deep inside to be true. You see what you believe.</p>
<p>And of course, because you see what you believe, you immediately believe what you see, because it supports your belief systems that determined what you saw in the first place. Thus, what you see reinforces your belief system, which causes you to keep seeing things in the way you believe things to be, which in turn again makes you see things in that way. It&#8217;s a self-reinforcing cycle!&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>But for now, we&#8217;re slowly moving into the point that we want to make&#8230;</strong></p>
<p>After all, it&#8217;s clear that the beliefs programmed into your brain have a significant effect on the way you perceive ‘reality&#8217;&#8230; or in fact, on the way you even construct reality and thus what you seem to be ‘attracting&#8217;!</p>
<p><strong>The thing is&#8230; Your brain is not the center of control that determines what happens and what doesn&#8217;t happen.</strong></p>
<p><strong>And that&#8217;s good news!<br />
</strong><br />
Because it&#8217;s still true that you can be the one taking control. You don&#8217;t have to be a slave to your body and brain. That is, if you recognize that you are not your body. You need to recognize that you are indeed the essence controlling it and occupying it to allow yourself to experience this ‘3D solid world&#8217;.</p>
<p>After all&#8230; Consider all this:</p>
<p>There has been this publication of an article in the scientific journal ‘Science&#8217; with the provocative title ‘Is Your Brain Really Necessary&#8217; [2].</p>
<p>This article was a reaction to the description of this British neurologist John Lorber of a young man of ‘normal development&#8217;, with an IQ of 126, and an academic degree in mathematics.</p>
<p>The funny thing was that a brain scan of this apparently highly intelligent young man showed that he was a pretty hardcore case of what&#8217;s known as ‘hydrocephalus&#8217;, or ‘water on the brain&#8217;.</p>
<p>Put differently, the head of this ‘IQ 126&#8242;, ‘academic degree in mathematics&#8217; young man was filled with cerebrospinal fluid for 95%. What this means in layman&#8217;s terms is that his skull was like a swimming pool for his brain, which basically drowned in all that fluid.</p>
<p>His cerebral cortex had a gauge of about 1 millimeter, so there was hardly any brain tissue left. The weight of his brain was estimated to about 100 grams, where 1500 grams is normal for an average homo sapiens sapiens. But the workings of his brain were hardly impaired at all!</p>
<p>The following picture comes to mind:</p>

<p>Maybe we underestimated him&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>Anyway, it seems like the brain is not the source of consciousness. And so the good news is that you can exert control over your brain (and thus your perceptions and the way you construct your reality (or what you seem to ‘attract&#8217;)) through your own being conscious.<br />
</strong><br />
Put differently:</p>
<p>YOU NEED TO WAKE-THE-HELL UP!</p>
<p><strong>Basically, your body (including your brain) is a vehicle for experience, and you&#8217;re in the driver&#8217;s seat.</strong></p>
<p><strong>You can take control and manipulate your perceptions, and it has been shown that you (being a conscious essence) can even change your brain (being a part of the ‘space suit&#8217; (your body) you&#8217;re wearing in order to be able to experience this ‘physical ‘reality&#8217;).</strong></p>
<p><strong>And if you listen closely, you&#8217;ll see this is true, and you&#8217;ll learn how you can benefit from this&#8230;<br />

Science has shown during our lives there&#8217;s this ongoing process of adaptation in your brain. This happens because your mental, intellectual, spiritual and physical activities influence both the number as well as the locations of the mutual connections between neurons (brain cells). This process of ongoing adaptation is called ‘<strong>neuroplasticity</strong>&#8216; or ‘<strong>cortical remapping</strong>&#8216;.</p>
<p>So basically, because of conscious attention, emotions and active thought processes, as well as due to physical activity and movement, the neural networks in your brain change continually. And as such, the electromagnetical activity in your brain changes all the time as well.</p>
<p>In a recent article in the scientific journal called ‘Progress In Neurobiology&#8217; called ‘Mind Does Really Matter&#8217; [3], neuroscientist Mario Beauregard comes to the conclusion that trust and positive expectations are capable of influencing (changing) the parts in the brain that play a significant role in perceiving, movement, pain and a whole bunch of emotional processes.</p>
<p>So your mental processes (thoughts, feelings, beliefs, but most of all your conscious free will) can significantly influence the functioning of your brain on various levels.</p>
<p>Your conscious and deliberate manipulation of your thoughts and expectations not only greatly improves your feelings of well-being. It also causes a <span style="text-decoration: underline;">demonstrable biological change in your brain</span>. (Beauregard outlines a whole list of studies that demonstrate the effect of consciousness on brain functioning in his book The Spiritual Brain [4]).</p>
<p><strong>So what to make of all this scientific mumbo-jumbo?</strong></p>
<p><strong>Well, here we go&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><strong>By waking-the-hell up from the vicious cycle that you may find yourself in, you can make astonishing changes in your perceived reality.</strong></p>
<p><strong>After all, we&#8217;ve seen that you see what you believe. Your brain edits the information it receives based on its engrained belief systems to determine what you see. And then what you see is merely a confirmation of what you already believe. It&#8217;s a self-reinforcing cycle, and it&#8217;s vicious as long as it&#8217;s based on beliefs of negativity, being powerless, being poor, feeling guilty, and so on&#8230;</strong></p>
<p>But by waking-the-hell up, you can consciously change your perceptions. You can consciously cause significant, demonstrable biological changes in your brain.</p>
<p>Your brain will change, and your perceptions will change. And as your perceptions will change, your beliefs will change. And as your beliefs change into knowing that you have full power over your own reality, your perceptions will change accordingly.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s still a self-reinforcing cycle, but not a vicious one anymore. Both your conscious and your subconscious mind will change into a state in which you genuinely believe down to the core of your being that you&#8217;re the one in control.</p>
<p><strong>And you can simply pick your beliefs. Your brain, mind and perceptions of your ‘outside reality&#8217; will follow automatically.</strong></p>
<p>Even if you have ‘water on the head&#8217;, as you have seen&#8230;</p>
<p>So who cares if your brain scan looks like Homer Simpson&#8217;s?</p>
<p><strong>It doesn&#8217;t matter, because you are not your body. You are a unique representation of all that exists, and you&#8217;re awesome. You can choose to make the change. It&#8217;s your call.</strong></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">The chief botanist on the David Livingstone Expedition (“Dr. Livingstone, I presume?”) was the first to discover the beneficial <img style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 10px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/ouabin.jpg" border="1" alt="Ouabin plant" width="220" height="164" />heart activity of the West African plant <em>Strophanthus gratus</em>, and brought the plant to Europe in 1862. It was used to treat heart disease in Germany as early as 1906.(1) Early on, many German physicians recognized the powerful beneficial effects of this plant medicine, which is now referred to as <em>g-strophanthin</em> (stro-FAN-thin) and its byproduct <em>ouabain</em>. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">Unfortunately, because of Germany’s political and scientific segregation before and during WWII, this valuable heart medicine became isolated from the rest of the world.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> Strophanthin has a chemical structure similar to digitalis, a commonly-prescribed heart medication derived from the foxglove plant <em>(D. purpurea)</em>. While both medications strengthen the heart, one important pharmacological difference is that strophanthin has a deacidifying effect on the heart muscle—which makes it extremely effective both in preventing heart attacks and stopping a heart attack already in progress.(2)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> <img style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 15px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/heart-attk.jpg" border="1" alt="Heart Attack Symptoms" width="191" height="177" />German physician Dr. Berthold Kern reported the results of his clinical practice between 1947-1968 involving more than 15,000 cardiac patients treated with g-strophanthin. These patients included many who previously had heart attacks. In this group, there were no fatal heart attacks, and only 20 non-fatal attacks.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> In contrast, government statistics for the same time period would have predicted 120 fatal heart attacks and over 400 non-fatal attacks for a group of this size.(3)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"><br />
In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study(4) of oral g-strophanthin in the treatment of angina sufferers, after 14 days of treatment 81% of the participants experienced a reduction in attacks, while the placebo-control group experienced a 72% increase in angina attacks.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> Another German study of 150 patients with severe heart disease, who collectively had experienced 254 heart attacks, demonstrated an 85% success rate in preventing further attacks. The study coordinator remarked, “A positive result was registered when the severe heart attack abated within  five minutes after the g-strophanthin capsule was bitten through, and after ten minutes at the latest, they disappeared completely.”(5) (The symptoms, not the patients).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">At present, there are approximately 5,000 German physicians using and prescribing oral strophanthin. A recent booklet (available in German only) gives the results of a survey of 3,645 German physicians who offered statements on their use of strophanthin between the years 1976-1983. Of the doctors interviewed, 3,552 offered exclusively positive testimony with no reservations. None of the physicians gave a negative response.(6)</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; font-family: arial;">
<p style="text-align: justify; font-family: arial;">The cost of strophanthin, which is currently available to German physicians and their patients, is about USD $30 per month. <img style="float: left; margin-right: 14px; margin-top: 10px;" src="http://realmedicalhelp.com/images/newsletter/heart-light.jpg" border="1" alt="" width="204" height="183" />It is possible to obtain this product from Germany with a prescription from a physician in your country. For those living outside of Germany, there are several strategies for obtaining strophantin, depending upon where you live. A German pharmacy (apotheke) can be located through an international telephone operator.</p>

primary compound responsible for the hot sensation of the pepper fruit, as well as its medicinal benefits. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Verdana;">It has long been claimed that cayenne, due to its high capsaicin content, is useful in stopping a heart attack in under three minutes, without damaging the heart muscle. A similar claim is made of capsaicin’s ability to abort an in-progress stroke.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Verdana;">The late pioneer herbalist <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Dr. John Christopher recommended a glass of cayenne tea be given every 15 minutes</span> until the medical crisis (heart attack) passes. Alternatively, it is said that a teaspoon of cayenne tincture (Google: Christopher&#8217;s Original Formula Cayenne Exract™) every 15 minutes is equally effective.</span></p>

<span style="font-family: verdana;">In the September 2009 edition of the journal <em>Circulation</em>, Keith Jones, Ph.D. and a group of researchers from the Department of Pharmacology and Cell Biophysics at the University of Cincinnati announced findings which shed new light on capsaicin’s relationship to heart function. This information gives credence to Dr. Christopher’s anecdotal reporting, and takes capsaicin’s near-miraculous effects to the level of evidence-based medicine. </span></p>

<span style="font-family: verdana;">The University researchers found that an over-the-counter pain salve containing capsaicin rubbed on the skin during a heart attack is a cardio-protectant which can prevent or reduce heart damage while other interventions are administered. Dr. Jones’ team found that applying capsaicin to the stomachs of mice caused sensory nerves in the skin to trigger signals in the nervous system which <strong>activate cellular “pro-survival” pathways in the heart</strong>, reducing cardiac cell death by 85%. Apparently skin&#8212;the largest organ of the human body&#8212;has evolved to protect animals, including humans, in a variety of ways. The researchers also found that a small incision made on the abdomen triggered an 81% reduction in cell death. </span></p>

If proven effective in humans, this therapy has the potential to reduce injury and/or death in the event of a coronary blockage, thereby reducing the extent and consequences of heart attack. </em></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: verdana;"><em>Both this and the capsaicin effect are shown to work through similar neurological mechanisms. These are the most powerful cardio-protective effects recorded to date&#8230;This is a form of remote cardioprotection, using a skin stimulus that activates cardioprotection long before the blocked coronary artery is opened&#8230; All of the current interventions require the vessel to be opened before doctors can act, and since it takes time to elicit protection, tissue dies&#8230;This treatment will protect the heart before the vessel is opened while producing a strong protective effect that is already active when we open the vessel.</em></span></p>

<p>A powerful leader accustomed to driving multiple operations will gradually lose command. A dedicated grandmother may forget the names of the grandchildren she loves.</p>
<p>When I read one woman’s story about how she came to accept that she had Alzheimer’s, my heart broke a little. She says:</p>
<p><em>“I think there comes a point in everyone’s life when we pause to reflect on the past, realize the present and look to the future. That happened for me at the age of 46. I’d been married for over 20 years. Our son was in his freshman year of college. I was happy in my job and my husband was looking forward to retirement.</em></p>
<p><em>“In the fall of that year I started to become forgetful – which was not like me at all. I had an almost photographic memory. I had a stressful job and worked long hours, so I blamed that for my forgetfulness. I couldn’t remember things like my home phone number, my associates’ names, or on bad days, how to get home. </em></p>
<p><em>“I remember that many times I would stop at a gas station. After filling my tank [I wouldn't] know whether I was going to work or coming home. I tried desperately to hide it and became pretty good at it! But one day in December, my husband and I were out shopping. He went to a different department in the store. The next thing I knew was that I couldn’t remember where I was or how I got there. It was time to fess up…” </em></p>

<p>Alzheimer’s can be a debilitating disease that can dramatically transform your life. It’s an insidious disease that can rock your confidence and rob you of your yesterdays. As one sufferer says, “I feel that I am robbed of any future because while I will live in it, I will be unlikely to remember it.”</p>
<p>It’s a brutal reality to have to accept. But scientists are offering hope in fighting the disease.  Over 4,000 scientists attended the recent International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease. And amidst a flurry of presentations, they reported that simple vitamin D may be your best defense against Alzheimer’s.</p>
<p><strong>“Sunshine” Vitamin Boosts Brain Function</strong></p>
<p>Sounds too good to be true? Not according to a new study revealed at the conference. The study says that vitamin D deficiency raises your risk of mental decline by up to 394 percent.</p>
<p>The study is just the latest to show that the “sunshine vitamin” is essential to good brain health. It was conducted by the Peninsula Medical School in Exeter, England. It reviewed participants as they completed a series of tests and exams.</p>
<p>Tests included memory, time and space orientation, and attention-focusing exercises. Vitamin D levels were measured from blood samples and compared with test performances.</p>
<p>“There are some fantastic findings this year,” said Professor William Thies, the chief medical and scientific officer of the Alzheimer’s Association. He said these findings “are some of the first reports of this type in Alzheimer’s” and “have the “potential to move the field forward.”</p>
<p>Study results showed that the risk of cognitive impairment was 42 percent higher in people deficient in vitamin D. Impairment was 394 percent higher in those who were severely deficient in it.</p>
<p>“The odds of cognitive impairment increase as vitamin D levels go down,” says study author David Llewellyn. “Given that both vitamin D deficiency and dementia are common throughout the world, this is a major public health concern.”</p>
<p>The Peninsula Medical School also worked on an earlier related study. It too offered evidence supporting this simple truth: seniors who get their daily dose of “sunshine” maintain stronger cognitive functioning.</p>
<p>Critical research, based on tests conducted on almost 2,000 U.K. senior citizens, showed a clear correlation between the presence of the “sunshine vitamin” and healthy mental function.</p>
<p>Sunshine is an important source of vitamin D. UVB rays initiate the production of the vitamin in human skin. Vitamin D also helps maintain strong bones (through the absorption of calcium and phosphorus) and a healthy immune system.</p>
<p>According to study author Dr. Iain Lang, the results indicate that individuals with the lowest levels of Vitamin D were 50 percent more likely to suffer impaired mental faculties. In other words, as vitamin D levels in seniors decreases, mental impairment increases.</p>
<p>“Getting enough vitamin D can be a real problem,” said Dr. Lang. “Particularly for older people, who absorb less vitamin D from sunlight. One way to address this might be to provide older adults with vitamin D supplements.”</p>
<p>Older people lose their capacity to absorb Vitamin D from sunlight as the body ages. That means they must seek other sources of the “sunshine vitamin.”</p>
<p><strong>Sources of “Sunshine” </strong></p>
<p>According to Rebecca Wood, chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, Vitamin D can also be found in foods such as oily fish and eggs. She adds that these foods are key sources of vitamin B12, which studies have shown to also help in protecting the brain.</p>
<p>Maggie Ward – nutrition director at The UltraWellness Center in Lennox, MA – says the best animal source is liver, especially from cod, herring, and sardines.</p>
<p>“That’s why those living in dark climates have these fish as a staple in the diet,” she says. “Nature always knows best.”</p>
<p>But she believes the best source of vitamin D is simple, old-fashioned sunlight.</p>
<p>“This is one of the many reasons I love summer,” she says. “I get my vitamin D from the sun and have one less supplement to take.”</p>
<p><strong>Supplement Your Sunshine </strong></p>
<p>The Vitamin D Council offers several good tips to ensure you get just the right amount of “sunshine.”  Check out these four ideas:</p>
<ol>
<li>Have your      doctor check your vitamin D levels.  This will give you a good idea      of how much vitamin D you need to supplement.</li>
<li>Make sure      you’re getting vitamin D3 in your diet. Smart options are capsules or      drops. To improve absorption, take it with food containing fat. Fat      makes it more soluble.</li>
<li>Have your      levels rechecked every three months.  Vitamin D is a hormone, so it      fluctuates for everyone. Seasonal changes also affect it.</li>
<li>People      with dark skin need at least 5 to 10 times more sunlight than      light-skinned people.</li>
</ol>
<p>“Vitamin D supplements have proven to be a safe, inexpensive, and effective way to treat deficiency,” says Llewellyn. “However, few foods contain vitamin D and levels of supplementation in the U.S. are currently inadequate.”</p>

<p>Our Brains are so deeply overworked and underfeed. We have no grace space in most of our lives. So the action and reaction times are usually very immediate. We can’t take one more thing. This next exercise will help you release some things held in your brain that you would like to release ie. obsessive thoughts, and difficult interactions. When we speak on the phone the conversation goes immediately into our brain cells. This exercise helps to release and rebalance the arcline, which goes ear to ear, in the process it realigns the brain. In that realignment process the conversation or obsessive thought process will be released.</p>
<p>Rebalancing the arcline is no small thing yet this small exercise will help that to happen. The EMF’s from all our electronically filled lives make our arclines weak. This gives it renewed strength.</p>
<p><strong>Shaking Hands:</strong> Change energy<br />
Hold hands on either side of your head close to the ears and begin shaking the hands keeping the wrists loose and the fingers semi tight.</p>

<p>Our body parts are amazing. They were put together with such innate encoding. Our hands fit perfectly in our own arm pits, over our knees, behind our knees, in the arches of our feet we are truly a great design.</p>
<p>Another of the bodies perfections comes in the reflexology points in the hands, feet and ears. It is the tips of the fingers and toes that contain all the points for the glands that reside in the brain, the pituitary, pineal, thalamus and hypothalamus.</p>
<p>This next exercise helps us get these glands working for us and calms the parasympathetic nervous system. It is simple and profound. I have watched entire offices of people immediately calm down with just this simple exercise. The Pituitary gland is know as the master glad for it is the one responsible for giving the signals to the rest of the glandular system that it is now time for them to secrete their various hormones.</p>
<p><strong>Finger Tip Release</strong>: Releases over-worked hands<br />
Lightly place fingertips touching, move them in and out bending the fingers. Another variation is lightly rubbing the tips of the fingers against each other in little circles.</p>
<p><strong>Gift</strong>: This stimulates the glands in the brain. Makes you more alive and relaxed<br />
Time:  60-120 seconds</p>
<p>I am purposefully giving you really simple exercises that can save your lives and give you immediate energy because I want you to do them and share them with others. This is just a minute particle of the vast depth of Kundalini exercises but I want you to have them accessible so you will do them. If you have the experience there is a greater probability that you will want “the more”.</p>
<p>This one is truly one of the best exercises for calming the parasympathetic nervous system. You can’t always do it at your office but you can do it at the end of the day to get to true relaxation.</p>
<p><strong>Spinal Rolls</strong>: Calms the nervous system</p>
<p>Lye on a soft surface:  rug, yoga mat, and bed. Pull the legs into the chest and wrap your arms around your legs. Roll as if doing a summersault.  On the inhale roll back like a back summersault and exhale as you roll forward till your feet touch the floor in front of you.</p>
<p><strong>Gift</strong>: Calms and collects you. Side bonus, strong abs.<br />
Time: 6-180 seconds</p>
