Borut Peterlin – Portraits of the Artists

Welcome everybody – to the first post in our new Inspirational Art Gallery which will feature new, inspiring arts every week from now on. My name is Daria Perse, I love flowers, all kinds of uplifting arts and happy music. For four years I was working in a private art gallery and that was my all-time favorite job. I guess that’s how I found myself becoming a moderator of this online art gallery.

If you’re an artist, creating arts that show nature, beauty, love, compassion, peace – anything that makes people feel good, or maybe your art is stimulating and thought provoking – and would like to be featured in this gallery, please apply via the form on the Artists Wanted page.

All the others, enjoy your stroll around this virtual collection of inspiring images, tell your friends, keep coming back and make sure to leave a comment. Looking forward to seeing you around – a lot! :)

Such talent. Such creativity. Such freedom of expression. Such love of art. Such fun. Such perfection. Such pleasure in viewing every photo. Who is this genius? Oh. Borut Peterlin. I never heard of him before this email. He is destined for great fame in my opinion. The first photo is so active. She is telling us she is listening: To the sounds of music around her? To the choir she hears in her mind? To new music she seeks for her choir to perform? Just time to relax and be present to the moment? There to take this awesome photo? We don’t know intentions but all could be present in the viewers’ eye. That photo sticks in my mind. Every photo is a gem. I love the last photo too cause she is so happy. Happiness shines from her smile and manner of the pose. And the backword sign on the window is so clever! KUDOS to all who made this gallery possible. Especially KUDOS to Borut Peterlin.

P.S. It is now 11:30 A.M. in Illinois. Borut has made my day. I have 3 grandkids. I am a senior citizen. My neice is a wonderful photographer. She sends winter Christmas cards each year. She will love this gallery of photo art. She has her own website with hundreds of photos.

I am not sure how to vote but the photos of Borut deserve a “19″ but get a “10″ from me.

  5. Dear Jeanne,

thank you for such a great feedback! You’ve made my day as well! About the last picture it’s also a game of words. Balkan is a south-east region of Europe, so I made a word ART with typical Balkan food, that’s burek. I’m producing this portraits every week for three years and you can see 40 of them on my website and every week also on my blog.
    Cheers again,
    Borut

  13. Ciao Theodore,

I’m using either Canon EOS 5D or Nikon D3 and two studio flashes with softbox and other accessories and a flashfeeder (a powerful battery). Nothing special. Actually nothing-special kit :-)

Portrait of Roma literate was done with a torch and a detached flash. I flashed Rajko with flash and all room with a torch in 30 seconds of exposure. I wrote a post about the portrait on my blog

Still this is one of the coolest things I have seen on the web in a long time.

  23. Ciao Michael,
underwater picture of Nejc was done by night with a camera in underwater bag. You know one of those Ewa Marine camera bags. Mine was leaking air bubbles, but I decided to do the portrait fast and on the end was OK. It’s illuminated by two lights that are standard pool illumination, so basically no high production tricks, just my father’s pool, few old books a camera bag and lots of good will. Now I’m blogging about how do I make a portrait.

What I really love about this person’s work is that there is a great juxtaposition with some photography, for example the guy using his bow to play the barbed wire. This sort of juxtaposition makes the viewer stop and think a bit and my thoughts were, “Is this about the way music programs are getting cut.”

I also liked the way he challenges what art is! The last picture with the baker shows that it doesn’t have to be just painting that is art, but other things too. Like baking.

These photographs are so interesting because they show a side of the artist that we so rarely see: namely the inspirational side. I should say the inspirational side that is at work before the work of art is created. It is very fascinating to see how artists perceive the world and how the perception spurs creativity. To see artists in search of inspiration in such common and not so common places is really something that deserves much more attention and appreciation. Thank you for sharing these unique and enjoyable photographs!
