Ask Cyndi – I Want So Much More

Okay – so I closed this & went on to the next article (which talks about change). I’ve read so many articles and websites dedicated to finding happiness “now” – being content with now, being joyous & prosperous – now… (just as you mention above). I so desperately want to be joyous and content with my current world, but the more I read such articles, the more frustrated I become. Maybe I’m just so busy with my day to day that there is no room for application of any of the things I read? I don’t know. I find all of it fascinating and frustrating at the same time. How do I “be happy” with the now when I want so much more? And yes – I feel guilty for wanting more… like what I have isn’t enough when I clearly have a wonderful husband and terrific kids….. I’m 46 and all these feelings of restless started around 40 and just seem to be getting worse, not better, no matter what I read or do…. Any thoughts?

Hi Cathy;

Feeling some discontent – yes?  Some sense that there is more to life than you are experiencing now?

Congratulations – you are in touch with your internal guidance system – and it is (at least for now) gently letting you know that an adjustment is needed to keep you moving along your Divine Path.

And that is something to be Happy about – you are in communication with your Higher Self – :-)

It is now time to get present with this Guidance System and to use it to get back into the center of your path.  Begin to pay more attention to how you feel as you move through the day.  Ask your self often….

“What Am I feeling Now?  What steps can I take to feel just a bit better now?”  And then make those little course corrections, paying attention as you do to how they affect the way you are feeling.

Also – instead of searching outside of yourself for the answers – I am moved to suggest that you spend more time looking inside.  It may be helpful for you to personify this feeling – give it a name – think of it as a dear friend who is living inside of you and who  (at least for now) can only communicate with you through feelings.  Set the intention that all is for your highest and best – and then talk to your internal friend – and feel her answers.  Do this often and I expect that the feelings will soon be joined by pictures – and even words – as you begin to develop a deeper and deeper relationship with that part of you that knows your path and joyfully walks it with you.

Cathy thank you for trusting me with this question – and for everyone that reads this please let us know your thoughts, comments and questions.  I know that many of us are experiencing a similar story and I sense that together we can bring what was hidden into the light – and increase the brightness of our smiles in the process….

I just wanted to say “Thank you” for the right message at the right time. I wrote about this last night in a journal out of frustration; out of feeling at a loss for what else to do. And then this morning I read about the exact same feelings. I’ll try following your advice.

    Thanks again
    Joseph

Great question and great answer! I wrestle with this also. I think it’s universal. It’ll always be there in greater or lesser degrees. I’ve been working with gratitude and I decided to start a 100 day gratitude pilgrimage which I’m blogging about. I’m doing it to keep myself focused in the application of gratitude during my day. My goal is to discover joy even in the midst of discontentment, frustration, etc. etc. I know it’s possible because I’ve had glimpses myself and I’m meeting others who have found peace and joy no matter what. Be patient and persistent. Enjoy the journey. That’s what I’m learning and I’ve found it works too. Thank you Cyndi for your great work!

    from Kay…

Cathy I walk with you in this predicament here are a few more thought to add to Cyndi’s
Discontent, is part of the predicament of being a spirited human being. JUST AS JOY IS FLEETING.
As I travel my path i have come to view it as my internal friend. Helping me to check my motives and intentions. It is also like a friend who comes to visit unexpectedly. I can choose whether to give it attention or if busy can make an arrangement with myself to REALLY CONNECT when the time is right. I do this in many ways, depending on my mood or physical aptitude. Here are a few of many ways to do
    this.
Put on some music with a beat, I like drumming best, and stamp my feeling into the earth, giving vent to my frustration and self pity or whatever comes up. Before long I am laughing out loud or crying, giving way to a feeling of elation or just OK depending on circumstance.

Candle work is good if you are weary. This time silence or soft gentle music of choice, gaze constantly at the candle for as long as you need imagining that the candle flame is burning off your pain and transmuting it for the highest good.

Getting stuck into some housework, gardening or decorating is another good one. BUT instead of just doing it, put all your woes into the work “walking out your stuff as you go”

Some how society has come to believe, think or expect that constant happiness is the norm. I see it rather as the never ending circle/cycle. Just as the sun shines in daylight to be followed by darkness with the moon. When the sun is obscured by clouds or rain we know it is up there and will come out again. After all too much
sun burns as well as heals. So too with our moods. We can not escape them but we can make friends with them. Even when we feel at our lowest ebb. In my youth up to age 35 I wanted out of this life. Since learning the process of developing honesty within the predicament have learned that ‘to dance with the highs and lows is the best we can do,’ and no longer want out. I wish for you understanding and acceptance of your own path. Blessings

You know I use to feel the exact same way. I can recommend a book however that changed my life! The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman. It is very powerful and I think you will really receive some great knowledge for your present predicament.

Cathy, I can so relate! I also have a wonderful husband and 4 adult children. But for the past several years, I felt, old, washed out, tired and useless. What I discovered in January of this year was that I have a soul purpose, and I had never connected with it until January. I discovered it by going back to my early childhood, and silently went “inside” myself to relive what I was doing at age 3
that I did every day and received great pleasure from. It was speaking to an audience – imaginary? Yes, but it didn’t matter. I experience the joy, inspiration, felt the emotion and heard the applause of the audience. I know now that I have always been inspired by the stage, by inspiring others, by reaching out and helping others to live their passion. My whole life has changed in the past 9 months. Life is absolutely marvelous in every way! I feel young again, I feel inspired and have direction in my life. I read and study all day to pursue my dream. I have already been on stage inspiring once this year, and am in training with some of the worlds
best minds now. Find YOUR purpose, and when you do, life will never be the same.

    Live Life on Fire
