Music and Life – Alan Watts

(to watch larger screen click on title)

My daughter Sarah is entering High School (9th Grade) in a few weeks and there are moments when we talk that she reveals some of her nervousness.  So many of her friends already know what “they want to be” when they grow up – and where they want to go to college, and Sarah really doesn’t have a clue.  And each time this subject comes up I celebrate her “not knowing” suggesting instead that she spend her time pursuing those activities that bring her joy – and allowing the pursuit of her interests to create her future for her.

Furthermore I tell both my children that if college and a “career” is what they want then I will support them – however – to please consider, seriously, another route.  Meeting people from all over the world sounds like a great way to celebrate life – as does volunteering your time for a year or more in the pursuit of bettering another’s life experience.

As I listen to Alan Watts I am reminded again of the importance of celebrating – and fully living – my life experience NOW – and not wait until I lose another 30 pounds or until enough $$ is in the bank or until…..

I suppose this write-up is a little disjointed but I am letting that be OK (hope you will too :-) ) .  It’s just that this little 2 minute clip has brought up so many different stories for me  and if you allow it I expect it may do the same for you

Loving the Journey :-)

Thanks for this post. Going against the mainstream isn’t always easy.

Shame that Alan died an alcoholic. Maybe, like Elvis, we should be grateful for his work and forget the rest.
